I still want OGS  :'(    We never get our first choice, just left with sloppy seconds!

I heard a rumour that RM's people contacted RL yesterday, after he got wind that LFC were going with Rodgers, to see if we wanted to talk and RL said they were looking at other options. Hence the 'announcement' from RM today.

i hope villadelph is wrong and is proven wrong. Though I must admit to having niggling fears at the back of my mind.

I hope I'm wrong too. Believe me, I only want to succeed and for Randy to find someone that is genuinely right for the club. I'm also a bit shocked that Martinez (who I don't fancy all that much but would support if appointed) is avoiding us like the plague. I feel as if he truly knows our situation and knows it's not worth taking on. In my eyes, he's aggressively dismissing us by pledging himself to Wigwam.

How do you see lambert? I see him as a great choice if appointed.

I like Lambert. I won't say a lot but I think he could do well here. He seems like he's straight business when it comes to the game and that's what I like about him. An honest and likeable guy that doesn't put up with crap.

However, I think there is a big issue when respectable managers would rather stay at the likes of Wigan Athletic, Norwich City and Molde than come to Aston Villa.

The 100% reliable sources of twitter and facebook seem rife with suggestion that Norwich have given Lambert permission for talks.

A lot of Twitter posts claim Lambert's having a second interview tomorrow. I didn't even know he'd had the first.

There also seems to be a lot of love for Villas-Boas as the mystery man, and a fair sprinkling of Di Matteo and Benitez admirers.

That's if you assume we made a direct offer, or even interviewed him, which we didn't.

Lambert 49.3 %    win rate
Martinez  26.7 %

I know alot of Lamberts games were in the lower divisions but I spoke to a few season ticket supporters from the championship who said to me Norwich were the best team they had seen that year ( when they were in it ) .

just hoping his first signing isnt a 31 year old Grant Holt, think that would set the scene for the next 2 years

Not saying I want him , but what a signing for Norwich .  £400,000 , and 70 goals in 129 games.      I would have had him instead of Harewood or Heskey.

Wigan had a better team than Norwich .   Norwich stayed in the prem easy.

Lambert for me
Debatable. I think goals count for a lot, and Grant Holt's goals really did the business. Their midfield was pretty decent too. Ruddy is good too and I've never been a big fan of Al Habsi.

I'd be happy with either. Also Wigan, more so than anyone else down in the bottom, particularly early season were a little unfortunate in many games. They deserved more points than they got. In the end their play started bringing the points they derserved.

For me though, both those squads are championship level. So survival for both is a real feat. Martinez has done it time and again and Wigan, who've become a Prem fixture continue to punch above their means. If Lambert stays at Norwich, the true test will be repeating survival next year. In that respect, I think Martinez has the upper hand.

I still think Wigan's team would have cost a lot more than Norwich's .

AVB high line of defense would get us absolutely slaughtered. If we were to appoint him (which I don't think we will) our entire senior defense would have to be shipped out. Dunne, Warnock, Collins.. they can't play his style of football. Not with any sort of training. It just doesn't suit them. That being said, if we were to appoint AVB or Rafa I think Cuellar would get a recall.

Well Dave Whelan who gets a terrible slagging has managed to keep his manager two seasons running. Thats quite an acheivement!

But forget  Martinez/OGS/Rodgers. Of the credible British managers left Lambert shines out like a veritable beacon.

Gus Poyet would be an interesting choice but like most of you I havent got a clue what Randy/PF are doing if indeed they are doing much at all.

If we have contacted Paul Lambert through whatever channels are available and he turns us down that will be a PR disaster
which will probably leave us with Di Matteo who hasnt been contacted by Chelsea and would cost us nothing as hes out of contract.

And he according to Baggie fans doesnt put in much effort during the week.

Well, according to the press, it's now a straight choice between Paul Lambert and Mystery Manager.

That'd make an interesting poll!  ;D

I bet Scobby and Shaggy will find out who he is  ;)

I don't think Martinez was offered it this time otherwise surely Whelan would be telling us all how his manager has turned down Liverpool and Villa, and maybe OGS thought it was a bit too soon for him having only been in management a year. Lambert has'nt turned us down yet and besides it might not even be him.

Me too. We need to improve our PR. We should be spinning before DW gets his chance.
