Di Canio will get a chance at a bigger club, will quite possibly do well for a while and then it will go spectacularly and controversially tits up.

I think DiCanio is a borderline lunatic and he's just as likely to get his team doing something extraordinary as he is throwing his shit at passing traffic. Avoid.

Poyet, now I can see the merits of going for him. I like his character and how he speaks on the game as well as his footballing philosophy. Another risk like Solskjaer would have been but I was O.K with that and I'd be O.K with Poyet too.

One thing that the poll shows is that we are completely divided in who we want now, when a few short days ago we were all together pretty much. Ergo, what we really want is someone 'different' who will excite us (hence the large-ish vote for the unknown Pizza Boy I suspect), and to be fair, that's none of the names above is it? Let's hope that the board can conjour up another OGS-like candidate.

I'd be happy with Poyet. Every player playing the game now would have seen what a good player Poyet was, he won things and was part of a very good Chelsea side. He'll have a good reputation and has worked with some amazing players, like Zola, Di Matteo, Desailly, Lebeouf etc. And managers like Vialli, Hoddle & Gullit. We could do a lot worse.

Just did a bit of checking on Poyet's managerial record.  Cam in when Brighton were in the middle of a relegation fight and kept them up.  Then won the league the next year and got them to a solid 10th in their first Championship season.

Not sure about doing it on a 'shoestring' though as according to Wikipedia (I know!) he broke their transfer record twice.

Maybe...you could be right, but I haven't seen anything from Poyet to suggest he's up to the job. He hasn't got Brighton promoted after 3 years, hasn't even made the play offs. They finished 10th in the Championships....at least McLeish got Birmingham back up after 1 season playing is drab football.

Two points:
- Brighton have been in the Championship for a season not three.
- He's been at the club two years. In his first season he got them promoted to the Championship. In his second, they finished 10th in the Championship.

I don't know who you're talking about, but it isn't Poyet or Brighton.

Brighton were excellent when we played them in the FA cup never mind for a team that were 56 places below us. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/23/aston-villa-brighton-fa-cup

Poyet would be great in my opinion (ignoring his comments relating to his fellow countryman Suarez)

According to Whelan ,Martinez is on holiday until Tuesday at which point he will give him a 7 dat deadline to decide if he is going to leave or not

Now this is where some journalists don't really know anything. Some papers today said he was flying to Boston to talk to the LIverpool owners.

He could be flying to Boston whilst he is on holiday somewhere. Not behind wit of man and machine.

I am in the "yes to Martinez" camp...

To those in the "no to Martinez" camp I want to clear something up... you state you cannot understand how "we" can like Martinez as he only won had a good run his last few games....

His last few games are not why we like him - actually they are a bonus...

Last year when we where linked I actually wanted Martinez then, I went away to wigan the houiller season and even though the wigan team was rubbish they had an air of creativity around them that felt like they could score at any moment.  Nzogbia and Rodallega seemed to link up really well and I remember really admired that as quality in a team, something we seemed to be missing...

I have always liked the way that with no money in small clubs Martinez still trys to play football and is able to create that feeling in the air a goal could come at any moment no matter how bad we are...

He did this with Wigan, a really really really bad team, who every year have been tipped for going down but stay up! They will go down this year if martinez leaves to I believe...

As reports have shown we are the 5th most successful team in the premiership with great support, More Money than most, a higher wage bill that mot and one of the best youth teams in the country, not to mention one of the highest potential squads in the country!

Using words from the richard keys vocabulary...

If Martinez can do it with Wigan, I believe he will SMASH IT with villa!

Edited *** Called Rodallega - Rodriguez!!! ha

Well said dude I wanted Martinez last year too. Would play the perfect football to suit Bent too, through balls to chase onto instead of hoof it to his head and hope for the best. Ireland and Nzogbia supplying to Bent in a Martinez football side, now that sounds like a winner for me!

He's just been on SSN. Describing his relationship with the fans he said "it's been great"
