Talk sport saying done deal

Not yet it isn't.

Looking likely though Dave?

I think he's the main target.

Do you think based on information that is open to all of us (ie links/words from this thread or VT?) or some other knowledge?

I don't have any certainties, but it just feels right. As with all these sort of deals, though, there's a long way between want and get.

Fair enough. I had doubts on the legitimacy of it all earlier - but it's all adding up. The biggest shock is that the board would be.. brave enough to appoint him, I guess. I hope you're right and he is our choice. I have a feeling he could be very good for our club.

I will be in Norway for the first two games of next season. With any luck I will be doing doughnuts in the car park of Ål Minipris and screaming 'Villa!' out of the window.

I am quite suprised by Liverpool going after Martinez.

Don't get me wrong, after a year of McLeish, I'd probably have been happy if they'd given the job to Martinez's sister, just to get McLeish out, but I could see how he might make sense as an appointment for us.

it's a different thing, though, seeing him talking to Liverpool. RAWK has been somewhat unimpressed to say the least, they still have that view of themselves as in the 80s, and think they should be after the likes of Guardiola.

Is this a case of the owners viewing things dispassionately as "outsiders" less prone to buying into the mythology of Liverpool?

In a way, it looks like them realising and admitting that they're not at the top table any more, and don't have the $$$ to get there, so they're being pragmatic and taking a punt. On the other hand, it all seems a bit random.

Appoint Hodgson, sack him. Appoint a club legend, give him a year, sack him. Appoint a DoF, then sack him too. Sack the PR bloke, sack the CEO, too, and they still don't have a plan for a new stadium (their most pressing need).

Looks suspiciously like a failed attempt to organise a piss up in a brewery to me. Marvellous.

If they do get OGS soon, fair play to them, they've shown some proper leadership for the first time in quite some time.  Decisively boot McLeish into touch, identify Solskjær, fly to Norway, appoint him.  If it happens like that, well done to them.

Martinez - didn't want to come last year, doubt very much Randy would go back a second time. Wigan got some great results over the last 2 months but he's spent most of his career in the bottom 6. It's time for him to get out now, while his stock is high. Good luck at Liverpool after King Kenny!!

Lambert - would be the safe bet, would deliver in the same way MON did. If he's not interested then it's his loss, I suspect he will find things much tougher next year. Given the record we have with all but ending the managerial careers of most managers over the last 20 years, you can't blame him.

Rodgers - don't know what the fuss is all about, don't think I could watch us pass the ball back and forth between the defenders and goalkeeper for the majority of the match every week.

If OGS does come it's a brave choice by Lerner. For this he needs to be applauded. He lacks managerial experience but has more footballing experience than most of the above. He knows the Premiership and I'm sure he's an intelligent / ambitious man. I wouldn't be fooled by his boyish looks.

It'd be funnier if our last two years hadn't been far worse.  At least they won a trophy.

There can surely be no doubt as to the legitimacy. He's clearly on his way over here tomorrow.

Whether that ends up with him being our manager is another thing, but it's refreshing to see the board take such a punt.

Despite being a dyed in the wool miserablist, I find it strangely exciting, and can't help thinking of the way things changed when BFR came in.

Telegraph saying he has a substantial buy out clause. Spending more money on managers than players!

Good choice though

That's not the point, is it, though?

A league cup is a much bigger deal for us than it is for them. Their situation shows even more patchy management than our lot.

Exactly if it happens credit where's credit's due. Hopefully a sign of things to come.

Oh, no. But earlier when it was first discussed I wasn't sure. Now I'm confident he's going to be flying over tomorrow.

You just have to look at how well Martinez has polled here. A team that narrowly avoided staying up on goal difference only - and he's fourth choice amongst our lot.

I accept it's a relatively small sample of Villa fans on this site, but it's consistent with the views of most other Villa fans I've spoken too -  Lambert and Rodgers the favourites, with AVB and others as outsiders/ flights of fantasy.

Their delusional state of mind was summed up by Terry McDermott saying they should be going for Mourinho or a Mourinho level manager. Yeah right.
