i agree he comes over as intelligent and he obviously likes to play football, though how useful that is with our players i'm not sure. But mainly I just wish he was doing it at a level a bit higher and not where passing herds of reindeer can double the attendances at some grounds and without the major spending behind him. I know we're guilty of thinking we're bigger then we are, but in terms of the leap he'd be making its cornershop to Harrods frankly.

A bit like say Wycombe to Villa?

depends if you think JG was a success

i dont just think Randy will roll up univited and knock on his door and say 'hi Ole, have you got a minute while i run something past you'

I'm a bit worried that this another appointment made after asking 'Hi Sir Alex, who do you think I should appoint this time your majesty?' He cant be any worse than the last twat he endorsed I suppose.

The difference with OGS is that, of all the Fergie 'protoges', he's the only one who actually is. I didn't see Ferguson getting McLeish, Ince, Bruce or anyone else to be his coach back in the day, but he insisted on OGS going back to coach.

Ireland showed more work rate and willingness to track back than most last season.

If you line up all the potential and gettable frontline candidates - Martinez, di Matteo, Lambert, Rogers, Solskjaer, I'd say four will never build a Champions League-winning team. Solskjaer might. It's a gamble, but let's die trying.

Very well put, and sums up exactly how I'm looking at this.

What he did in when he first got here was nothing short of a miracle. Didn't we finish 6th next season and get a cup final place?

Agreed, I've be very surprised to see a man fly to another country for a job he's not interested in.

Well said Dave. The board are taking a gamble that might just pay off.Good on them.

Sorry, but that isn't good enough.  The state we are in at the minute means that another managerial failure will probably see us relegated and looking for yet another new manager this time next year.  We have to get this one right.

He wouldn't fly over to talk if he wasn't interested.

Why not? It's a go on a private jet, free booze and a free lunch I expect. Be crazy to turn it down.

To be fair, OGS has always come across as highly intelligent, which is more than can be said for our last manager. I think that Scandinavians who come to ply their trade in England can be assumed to have some nous and initiative. They also speak multiple languages. Basically, they're cleverer, and people tend to respect cerebral types in management. Many of the Scots that play/manage in England have an ultra-simplistic, unsophisticated up-and-at-em attitude. McLeish is a case in point.

Lets go for Stephen Hawking. Very clever, definite cerebral type, not Scottish but same age as Fergie.

Are people suggesting John Gregory was a success now? I thought spunking loads of money on players with no sell-on value, finishing 6th and losing in cup finals was viewed as a capital offence these days.

Super Duper Platinum Muppets is where it's at these days.

that's right! We're sifting through all of the rumours right now. We'll let everyone know once we've truly dismissed the Mick McCarthy stories.

I hope he lies in bed tonight in his Mr Men pyjamas and asks Silje what *she* thinks.

Nice little club.

Scummy club.

Uwe Rosler's record as manager... Played 8 won 6 drew 2 lost 0.

Got rid of him because he's never played for Man U.
