Guardian reckon he will say no. But then we have not even approached Lambert and they reckon he has said no, and Martinez turned us down after we offered him the job last year too....

Not really, they reckon he has reason to say no, which is different. I think he'll be in the dugout at the start of next season, but who knows.

Wigan give permission for Loverpool to speak to Martinez. SSN Breaking News ....

I must say, I'm surprised. I thought Liverpool still considered themselves one of the giants of British football despite evidence to the contrary. All Martinez has on his CV is that he's successfully avoided relegation several years running with unfashionable Wigan.  Appointing Martinez would be a huge gamble. I hope they take it and live to regret it.
Martinez is a yes man, which is what FSG want
I don't understand the logic in this i'm afraid. Why would that be the overriding requirement for FSG?

I thought Liverpool would scour Europe for this replacement after the Hodgson debacle. It seems the US 'pool owners have as many networks in European football as our renowned US owner does.

"I think Kevin would be a good candidate," Gabriel Agbonlahor said. "He's very good with the younger players and has won the reserves' title I don't know how many times. Obviously, it's the chairman's decision. But I don't think the fans should discount him because he's not a big name."

Gabby was asked a question and was complimentary about a coach at the club.  He was hardly going to say "Nah, he's not the man for the job" was he?

Nothing to worry about.

I'm feeling rather negative so please excuse the following a little.

It feels like our stock has fallen massively, so now can't get a manager from either Norwich, Swansea or for crying out loud Wigan.  OGS might be brilliant but equally we could be heading for a hat trick of disasters, if we do appoint OGS a 1 year deal would be prudent with an option to extend if successful.

I feel totally under underwhelmed.

This.  Substitute the word "Norway" for "Scotland" and we have the measure of the man as a manager right now.  He has proven very little thus far to suggest he should be managing a Championship team let alone a Premier League team.  This feels like a wind up, and I would be thinking it is a wind up, if it wasn't for the fact that he is now favourite for the job! Dear fcuking me.

Well he was probably asked, what was he going to say? "Nah, Kevin would be totally out of his depth, it were shite when he was in charge".

To the people saying 'why didn't why go for Lambert and/or Rodgers' - it's entirely possible we enquired and were rebuffed, possibly by the men themselves. With hindsight it looks pretty likely that McLeish has been out since the Bolton game, and we've had all that time to consider his replacement. We may well have finalised a list of candidates by the time we sacked Eck, and set about the task very quickly, getting quick responses. We do like to conduct our business pretty secretively - I mean, this OGS thing has come from nowhere - so there's no reason why we couldn't have done it without anyone hearing about it.
It just might be that OGS is our first choice.
Ticks all the boxes:
Left field appointment,
Young,
Vibrant,
Exciting appointment (well I'm excited)

The Guardian basically think we're Hull or something. Fuck em.
I suppose Randy sent a plane over on the off chance OGS wants to go for a pint or something.

Newly promoted Newcastle 6 Aston Villa 0 should be the overiding factor if McDonald is seriously under consideration.

We won games either side of that defeat and drew over in Vienna. He's got the reserves playing decent football but i think he prefers staying in the background.

OGS is a gamble, as is the idea of gambling on him being the next manager... It would be, in political speak, a "brave" decision to appoint him.

They like places that are a bit rough and dirty, and people who are a bit sarcastic and argumentative.

You'd think we'd have loads of Norwegians on the forum!
