Wilkins DOF, RDM Head Coach, Clarke Asst.Coach.  Now there's a thought.
Although I keep saying that RDM isn't my first choice, imagining those three working together with Sid and K Mac does make my mouth water.

That would be four coaches. It's more than Bowen's.
I think he wants us to park the bus

Mind you, after last year, our squad shouldn't need any instruction in bus parking.

Is the idea of bus parking to not concede? If so ours need a lesson in not overshooting the bus by about a goals width!

What concerns me is how much of the way things are set up at Swansea is about Rodgers, and how much is about the work of those who went before him.

It's a fair comment.  But I'm trusting what I saw with my eyes at Villa Park - a team of no-names passing the ball around us like we were a pub team.  Whoever gets it - it is always a leap of faith.

Everyone else...

I only favour Rodgers because I think he will be a better fit with our permanent coaches - KMac and Sid etc.   Can you see them working well together or not?  Let's try an experiement.  Imagine Sam Allardyce or Mark Hughes getting the job.  Do they gel with what we have here? I just get the sense such personalities don't fit with what we do at the grass roots.

In the end - I would take any of three leading candidates.  I just want people to think calmly about who we are and what we want.  Success can take care of itself.

I keep seeing mention of the club not wanting to pay compensation.  There is no more important role at a football club than that of manager - everything starts there - the good and the bad.  What is more important - a game changing manager - or a midfielder from the Championship?- because that is what that money will buy.

I posted this as a new thread as the original is too massive to read - and I want to see if the Mail really do represent the majority of Villa fans.

But thank you for taking the time to write a line complaining about this being a new thread....

Where did we get Saunders from?

Unemployment. He'd been sacked by Manchester City.

If all their responsibilities were properly delineated, Wilkins upstairs overseeing scouting and sorting out contracts etc, Di Matteo and Clarke in charge of the day to day running of the first team, K Mac in charge of the reserves and Sid looking after the Academy I can't see there being a problem. Add to that the idea that when it comes to a football philosophy they all seem to think the same way, it could lead to that smooth progression from promising youngster to fully fledged first team member with out the culture shock that some of our youngsters seemed to experience in the season just finished.

As Doug would say, Rogers was always my first choice.

Good point re Cowans and the youth. Bad point is the hoofers. Can you see Dunne and collins confidently keeping the ball from the opposition through the medium of controlled accurate passing? I'd pay to see it but its not gonna happen

Ian holloway for me, got the balls to sort the first team out, plays exciting football would get the best out of the squad we have got, at least you could go to the match and know the lads would give everything they have got as all his teams seem to want to play for him. The fans turn up in good numbers every week even when they went down the attendances have stayed stable. I know some will highlight the fact Blackpool went down but I remember him saying when they first got promoted that it may have come to soon for them as a club. I think given the structure at villa and a bit of randy's money he would do a decent job for us. Life would not be boring under his management. Obviously if they beat big sam's team at the weekend that may make it difficult.

I saw it, too, and i was extremely impressed. They were the best side i saw us play last year. If we are going to appoint based to any degree on that, then I just want us to be sure it's actually him.

Rodgers would be great. However, as I've said before, the vast majority of Villa fans at games shout abuse at the players when they don't get anywhere within 10 seconds of getting the ball. "fucking get it forward" is an example after three passes between the defence to midfield and back again. If you've seen Swansea this year they pass the ball forever before getting anywhere, which according to Rodgers in The Guardian is as much about allowing the players to rest for a minute as you can only rest when you have the ball. I think he'd be a good choice, but I just worry that Villa fans (at games, who I think, on the whole, are different to those who post on here) will not give him the time he needs to change us into a (hopefully) better version of Swansea. Look what happened under GH when players tried passing the ball without always getting somewhere - the fans got on his back. It'd be a tough job for him and one he'd maybe not want the hassle of (though I hope I'm wrong).

so what you do is throw  5 people together, allocate different responsibilities regardless of thier existing positions, history or particular merits. Assume they are all going to slot into this structure you have designed for them and hey presto you have the soloution. yes very good, have you tried Management Consulting?

Don't underestimate the impact of a year of what we've just watched, though.
