I'm still hearing that Roberto Di Matteo is the preferred choice of those at Villa Park who matter. Also preliminary talks have been held.
He's not my first choice but I could live with it.
And by the way, I wont say on here where I get my info from, but it is a fairly decent source.
Apparently Randy is due in the UK on Friday and an announcement will be made early next week.
As I say, if it's wrong don't shoot the messenger.
With a CL Final being prepared for, I cant believe that to be true.

As much as hes resurrected Chelskis season, I've also heard a few bad things about Di Matteo at Baggies so dont think he would be suitable for us and have struck him off my short list.

Collymore just pointed out on TalkSport that our biggest home win of the season was 2-0 against Wigan. All I want in the next manager is someone who's gonna win games at Villa Park :(

Technically it would be the 3-1 win against Blackburn. Yet again the lifelong Villa fan gets something wrong.

Christ, talk about splitting hairs!

I'd agree if it wasn't for the fact that he earns a living from being the Villa fan expert and yet generally speaks a load of crap about us.

As I said when we appointed AM and was feeling depressed but optimistic: if we win every game 1-0 I will be a very happy Villa fan. Well, at least we scored 1 quite often:(

Ian Taylor said on Sky yesterday that we had to get it "spot on" this time, whilst I agree totally with that I still have a certain dread as to who we actually end up with.
It would be cruel beyond words to be relieved of that ginger monster only to see him replaced with another dinosaur like McCarthy (in fact experience should tell Lerner to rule out any candidate who's name stars with "Mc")
I would love to see them just go for it with the likes of Zola or Di canio with a number 2 like Clarke and attack every team who comes to Villa park!
Here's hoping.......................................................................................

yep.  complete ban on anyone who was born, played or managed north of the border or Ireland. Its the only way.

Di Matteo is not a good manager. Chelsea's run of form has everything to do with Di Matteo letting Lampard, Terry et al play they want to rather than any tactical nouse. They've just been playing how Mourinho had them play.

Aye.

There was a little period there from about the Arsenal home match to Chelsea away when he'd started to win a few over.  The Stoke away game was mostly awful as a spectacle, but we did look solid defensively -even from set pieces.

But against Swansea we were abysmal, and that seemed to set the tone for most of our remaining home matches.

He still had plenty of games to make a better impression though. A total of 7 points from home matches against Everton, QPR, Fulham, Stoke, Sunderland and Bolton would be a shite state of affairs in any season -whatever the background of the manager of the time and his past associations.

We can't follow up the disaster that was McLeish with the man who was shown the door at the Baggies.

That was Di Matteo.

Di Matteo is basically care-taking the clowns in the dressing room that seem to run Chelsea. I don't believe he is a good manager, he will last 6 months next year at Chelsea, even if he wins the Champions League.

I was keen on Di Matteo until I spoke to someone very ITK with regards west brom. Was told how he used to piss the players off no end as he's a proper London lover and would frequently miss player meetings etc just to nip back to London town. He's also not highly thought of when it comes to his man management skills
