How about MON and Randy patching up their differences, MON paying back his compo; agreeing to work within the constraints laid down by Randy and at the first home game of next season in front of a full house come running out to the dug out to a chorus of Dear Old Pals, Jolly Old Pals!  ;D

no thanks .  ;)       sarcy bugger

Thats the other thing about Mcliesh's departure. He'd started talking about spending money and getting players in towards the end rather than the "we're skint, and i knew that when i arrived "speech. Mebbe he presented them with a list of players at the sacking meeting and they ran for the hills. They certainly used Houllier illness as an excuse not to spend money, so Mcliesh's shiteness was more than ample opportunity to pull the plug on cost reasons alone.

Think the biggest problem we've got now is the Joker in the pack that is our board and owner. Its obvious there's been no coherant command structure there from the start, which was fine until MON left and they had to think for themselves. Houllier you could at least see where they were trying to go even if they had the wrong players for it, but since then its been a mixture of knee-jerk reactions and bizarre decisions.

Inviting McClaren and then cancelling it alledgedly on the opinion of the fans; approaching Martinez without sounding him out whether he was even prepared to leave; Tapping up AM partly on the say so of Alex Ferguson and this time totally ignoring the fan's opinions;Expecting to challenge for Europe while taking 20m pounds out the squad; Faulkner's Ajax of the midland's idea; Apparently convincing AM that he was here next season upto the point where he's arranging the meeting where they sack him

There's other examples of their ineptitude but you get the idea. I'd like to see Faulkner given the push and someone with experience bought in because i fear we could get another nasty surprise if he's involved in the selection process. I mean is Lerner listening to this man?

Can't argue with that

I reckon Martinez is in the mix Maz, and the 2 and 2 is not set in stone because Collymore said it is it, or have you heard this from your sources too?

I think if they thought Martinez was right to take forward the Houllier model last season, they will have been impressed having bought their best player last summer to see them do it again, more impressively this season. Logic dictates that they are not petty enough to not go back in just because he felt loyalty to Wigan last season.

one good thing about Martinez is , he would save us £9.5 million straight away as he would get Nzogbia to play good football again .

Rogers has just signed a 3 year deal at Swansea with a massive get out clause, in the region of 8 mill,

i dont think Randy will be paying that sum if there are others about who are similar and can come without such a big payout

Ideally we need a sure-thing, as someone said - the equivalent of a BFR.

I agree with that, as despite what has happened, I still think the Villa job is a big one.  I remember reading John Gregory's autobiography and when he got the job at Villa, his mentor Arthur Cox was immediately on the phone saying "you've just been handed the keys to a megastore, not a cornershop.  Can you handle a megastore?".

Although Lambert , Rodgers and Martinez do seem appealing, it worries me slightly that they have never managed at bigger clubs.  I wonder if we would be better going for someone like David Moyes or Mark Hughes, as they have both done well at bigger clubs.  I know that McLeish has kind of sullied the name of ex-Rangers managers, but I would put Walter Smith in that category as well.

Why are people talking about AVB? is he amongst the favourites?

Like someone said before , AVB would be great because hes similar to our name ;)  like Arsene (Arsenal) and Mancini ( Man$$$ty).
And everytime I see a report in the paper that I think is  about Villa , it was always about André Villas and pissed me off.

;)

It doesn't worry me at all. I think Lambert has played for massive clubs, and will be well aware of the step up, while Martinez is a very bright man, and would know what he is walking into, and Rodgers was a coach under Mourinho at Chelsea. I think the bookies are going to be right though, I think one of the first 2 will get it. Which is anybodies guess.

If Rodgers has a 8 million pound clause then we can forget about him .

It will be interested to see how Swansea get on next season.

I'm going for a dream team of DoF Sir Patrick Moore with Brian Cox as his underling.  Imagine the formations we'd play - 4-3-3...nah, it's NGC2770 supernova factory.  Forget about playing triangles too, we'd play stars and have special moves like the black hole or wormhole...

What worries me it that we need a manager to hit the ground running. Martinez and Lambert would be good, but would  they need a bit of time to get used to managing a big club with players with bigger ego's than they are used to. What we need is a manager that the players will respect and play for. The players didn't bust a gut for McLeish all season.
Saying that, I wouldn't mind if Brendon Rogers or AVB were in the dugout in August.

No, just a hunch and nothing more than just speculating over what Stan said.
I wouldn't be suprised if Martinez was in the frame at all but I reckon with what happened last year (not that its a damning of Martinez to honour an agreement) they will pusrue other avenues first.

If they wanted to continue the Houllier model they went spectacularly wrong with appointing McLeish. I wish I thought they had that much of a plan back then. I hope they do now though. I think they do.

Spot on greg.  Although I dont want to see him go as he seems to be improving commercial income which is something we will need to do to compete.

Amazing going the Houlier route to then employ McLeish.  Never understand that.
