And here's another name which I admit is ambitious but he's potentially available... van Gaal?

You couldn't have Van Gaal, he'd never be able to pronounce Aston.

I would love Van Gaal, he was my no 1 choice when both GH and AML got their jobs.  He could really build the Club from top to bottom, just don't think it'll happen though.

Of the younger breed, i'd like to see Lambert out of the three mentioned.

Amazing going the Houlier route to then employ McLeish.  Never understand that.

To be fair to Randy when Mcleish came in he was talking the talk... he said that "at BHam he had to play that way due to resource, he is attacking look at my aberdeen team!"

kept telling us in media he was going to play football...

He even did mental gynsatics where he seemed convinced he was playing attacking football cos he had 6 attacking players ON the field... including heskey on the wing...

It was just his actions n the pitch didnt match his words in the press room!

I truly hought he would try to play proper football... I didnt think he would be stupid enough to play how he played at blues given the grief he was getting re the blues connection!

It's got to be Martinez. Bring Moses too.

Moses on the right and a rejuvenated N'Zogbia on the left - look how Martinez got him playing for Wigan. Charles is a great player who was stifled by McLeish's negative defensive tactics.

Anyone who thinks Martinez can manage should note:
P127    W34    D36    L57    26.77% wins
is his premier league record which is a whole  lot better than F'Eck's 21.43% is'nt it?
Just because Shearer and Hansen say he's great doesn't make it so.

Agreed, don't believe the hype with Martinez.  He's likeable and he did well to keep Wigan up but they really are a relagation waiting to happen every year untill April comes around.

Lamberts record is far superior imo and he just has the character that I like, played at the top level too in Europe.  His disposition does remind me of MON but he seems to have more flair and general knowhow of the game.

The stats dont support Martinez at Villa though, Mcleish has a defensive mindset based around not loosing so no matter where he manages they end up with a similar win ratio... as a draw is a draw!

Martinez tries to win, with a better team and more resources that win rate will increase!

i think the fact Martinez has survived the drop season after season playing nice football in front of the 17 home fans is the achievement that earns him the opportunity!

After a dismal January, Wigan lost only 3 more games all season.  I don't watch enough of Wigan to see what the turnaround was based on, but it certainly wasn't just April.

Well they only lost 1 of their last 9 I think and won 7 so i'd say thay must have had a pretty good April to be joint top of the form league or whatever it was.

Anyway, I just don't think he'd be right for us, that's not to say I wouldn't have taken him in a heartbeat given a choice between him and AML but now we have some time i'd rather Lambert or Van Gaal.

I agree with this.  Also note the fact that Wigan are never overawed by the opposition, and at Villa Martinez would have more reason to instill confidence in his players.

I Have steamed through the last 20-odd pages and think we have gone off the point.  So, in the spirit of this thread, I want Glenn Hoddle.

For Manager, obv.
That!

He started the ball rolling at Chelsea in my opinion, bringing in Gullit, Vialli and co. I know Shearer said on record aside from Sir Bobby he is the without doubt the best manager he has ever worked for, on the training ground and off it. That includes Keegan, Dalglish and Venables.

Hoddle for me.

Aston Villa cannot be seen to support discrimination against people based on disability or race. No to Hoddle, no to Di Nazio. We would be pariahs, like Racistpool.

No way to Hoddle, ask any Doghead fan who remembers his time there and Di Canio has to much racist baggage with him shame cause he is full of spirit and fight, just what we need.

I just asked sky bet for a price on Joachim Loew and he is now on there @ 14/1. Was expecting a far bigger price than that.

Can I be the first to say how disappointed I am with the appointment of the new manager?

I'm underwhelmed.

He's got to go.

That's the spirit.
He's had long enough to turn this club around.

See you in the car park. Bring a banner.

I like Martinez but not as Villa manager.  I know its been said many times before his stock is over rated.  The question I can't ignore is that why cant he motivate a team to play for the season rather than the last 6 games?  To me there is seriously something wrong there.

Not sure why either there is massive support for Lambert and Rodgers.  They've done well but its been a piss poor premier league quality wise from 10th downwards this season.  They've done nothing that really warrants all the support.  How deep are their scouting networks? Being used to shopping in Aldi means their knowledge and networks are there.  I don't think we can expect to shop at Waitrose but Sainsbury's surely must be a target!  They are too young and inexperienced to restructure top to bottom which needs to happen at Villa.  I would have liked to have seen what Houlier could have done with a little more time/better ticker as he understood what needed to happen and started to do it.  Pissed off a few senior players on the way but quite frankly those were players we needed to (still do) get rid of anyway.  He wasnt stupid.

Gaal, Boas for me.

If Wigan had Darren Bent up top this season instead of Di Santo or Sammon do you guys really think they'd of been as bad in the early part of the season? Yeah those are the players Martinez signed. But lets be honest what kind of good quality player would want to join Wigan anyway as apposed to EVERYONE else in the Premier League? They have like 100 fans in away games ffs!
