Not David Platt either.
Another thing. It is incredible how the phrase 'left field' has to be used in describing the new manager. Even McLeish was starting to use it.
Interesting comment by Mystery Man today regarding the sacking by the way.

Where is this comment from Mystery Man?

Twitter.
Could someone post it here please? Twitter is for pricks (pricks like me who can't get on it at the moment)

There seems to be a lot of weight behind the rumours of a Director of Football coming in. This makes me think we might get someone very raw into work alongside him. Someone like Laursen. He would make sense in that I reckon he'd be happy to keep Cowans etc (which I think Randy wants to), and wouldn't have such a big ego as to not want to work with a DoF.
I think keeping Cowans and Kevin Mac should be set in stone for the new manager.
That pair are the main reason we have a brighter future with our Villa youngsters.

Maybe not.

Anyway Owen Coyle, bringing Kevin Davies with him, now it has been said that they are staying with Bolton.

Also agree the board carry a huge weight with this decision. They simply have to get it right this time.

Ideally we need a sure-thing, as someone said - the equivalent of a BFR. A charismatic, been there and done it type.

Trouble is, I don't see a UK based manager that fits that criteria that would join Villa. (I'm thinking Fergie, Redknapp, Wenger, Moyes and O'Neill)

Which means we either look abroad, where you have understand we wouldn't be a draw to the top names (Mourinho, Van Gaal, Guardiola) so we would be looking to lesser people which introduces a risk (Benitez? Ranieri?  - insert your leftfield name here).
And so that leaves looking to a younger guy with promise (Lambert, Rodgers, Martinez *spit*, Di Matteo).

So in conclusion, and this very much depends on your attitude to risk, I'd say Paul Lambert looks the best bet IMO.

I would have a lot of time for Rodgers coming here but don't rate Martinez.

Also he was relegated, not another manager who just got his team relegated.

I Really dont want Lambert, its direct football, he is all about himself too - ask the colchester fans!

I have much more respect for Martinez, stayed with wigan as he had promised chairman!

Think Lambert reign will end in tears...

Like the idea of Rodgers too...

Great.

It's hard to marry appointing another manager who has just been relegated with their statement yesterday.

How about MON and Randy patching up their differences, MON paying back his compo; agreeing to work within the constraints laid down by Randy and at the first home game of next season in front of a full house come running out to the dug out to a chorus of Dear Old Pals, Jolly Old Pals!  ;D
