Maybe there will be serious money to spend then as I'd think the man they want will be Moyes and he won't be interested in an offer to move for essentially, more of the same.

It's going to cost at least £20m just buy a new defence.

Good scouting and you could sort our defence for about 10-12 million I reckon. Clark, Lichaz and Dunne stay, the rest go. Naughton, Clyne at full backs won't cost the earth, the lad at Watford at centre half would be about 4 million. Then coach them, and protect them through the midfield.
Delaney - Mellberg - Laursen - Bouma

£12m that lot cost. I'm pretty sure we can find a few decent defenders if just for once we didn't just buy whichever reserve team waster happened to be being pushed out of a club that week.

Vidic, Agger, Skrtl, Kompany, Evra, Sagna - all cheaper than Cuellar was.

And I like Cuellar, but god it would nice to have a manager for once who didn't just think we are only allowed to buy players from Britain.

For those lauding Martinez and his loyalty, have a chat to Swansea fan. They still refer to him as Judas there. Slagged off players that moved on when their heads were turned, then did exactly the same thing himself.

But to be fair, you have to accept all but a handful of clubs are simply stepping stones to where career hungry managers wish to be. It's just nice to dispel another myth about Martinez.

Wigan play good football? I don't think so. They pulled their fingers out when it mattered but that's not enough in my book. They might be pretty but they have no steel at all.

I wouldn't trust Martinez to build a castle out of Lego, never mind our new defence. Lambert is a better fit for us in every way if that's the road you want to go down.

Wigan can be accused of much, but winning 7 out of 9 including United, Arsenal and Liverpool to save yourself shows steel.

Which can be balanced with long runs of defeat after defeat... is it 8 on the bounce a couple of times. The question should be why the swing in form in the the same season.

One hiring and one firing have provided us with more excitement than the all the intervening 38 league games put together, and by a factor of several.

I have no idea who the next manager will or should be, but it's time to cut the crap and get back to being a serious football club.

I have a feeling they have an idea who they want but it might take a bit of time to get him.

Is that a gut feel or something you've heard Dave?

A feeling. This is their Venables with the England job moment, where they HAD to get the right man regardless of baggage.

It's Mourinho!

No games to play and the transfer market won't really kick off until after the Euros.  There's no rush.

He would not leave Everton for Villa

Moyes has been the top target before. Randy has also showed previously, with Bent (and earlier with Young), that he can wander into a club and say name your price and pay it.

But have they still got the front and the money to do it? Then to back him up? And if Lerner is going to spend that sort of cash, then Moyes might not even be the best choice in the wide world for football.

Difficult to square the prospect of spending big again with what we've seen and been told over the last year.
