Difficult to square the prospect of spending big again with what we've seen and been told over the last year.
Depends on how RAL's investments have been going. The changes and fluctuations in the markets over the coming months will provide rich picking for people with the right know how. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the club properly back the new manager.

I have a feeling they have an idea who they want but it might take a bit of time to get him.

Ah it is going to be a long few weeks. Joy.

do you think they are waiting for Dematteo ? it seems what ever he does next week he wont get the Chelsea job ?  :-\

While I appreciate Martinez has limited resources, bear in mind that Steve Bruce has a better record at the same club. I just feel he creates the sort of side that can beat Man U on the Saturday and lose to Northampton in the cup on the Tuesday. That's what I mean by 'no steel'.

Personally, I would love Moyes but didn't Pelty say we've tried for him several times and he's turned us down with nothing to suggest his stance has altered recently.

Depends on what you mean by 'compete'.  Sustained success needs investment where as short term improvement can be gained for less.  I'm all for spending wisely, but that's more about making what we have go further than it is being able to spend less.

I get the impression from the statement that there will be a bit of investment.

Players wise I would want the new man asap.

Hope so, not good enough for West Brom, not good enough for us.

Chelsea's bounce in form has more to do with the big egos getting their own way rather than anything Di Matteo has done. Same thing happened with Scholari/Hiddink.

we still going ahead with Mcleish's signing? Just what a new manager wants - a player he didn't sign on god know's how much.

Paul Lambert please

No thanks for Martinez, he didn't want it last time so I see no reason to offer it to him again

Di Matteo is not likely to swap the Champions League final to work with Alan Hutton and I think Moyes and Rodgers happy where they are

Get Lambert in and give him as long as possible to prepare for next season... oh and back him in the transfer market!

most baggies fans considered him unlucky to get the tin-tack which was more to do with their board pannicking. so i'm not sure he's that shit compared to the likes of Lambert and Rodgers.

After reading the statement I can honestly see this being the summer where RL just goes for it. Decent manager (Di Matteo/Lambert), bit of investment, and finally getting rid of the deadwood. Give the younger manager the chance to do what he wants and get those days back where there was regularly 40k+ in Villa Park.

Like Avram Grant did?

But, i wouldn't go for Di Matteo anyway.
