Don't post much but absolutely delighted with this news. He should never have been here in the first place.

What is Martin Laursen doing these days? Get him in and at least we might score from a corner.....

Whoever gets the job needs to be up for one hell of a challenge because individually and collectively the playing squad he will inherit is quite frankly shit.

I hope the incoming manager realises that this is one hell of a task.  We heard fro MON that this was a 5 year project, well after slipping back over the last couple of seasons its probably more like a 10 year one.

Whoever it is will inherit what is left of a squad after the savage prunning this season that have proved to be unable to gel as a team and show little respect for what they appear to learn on the training pitch.

We need a skilled sugeon who hopefully is given the tools to dig deep and relite the fire in the heart of the club and its players.

Don't agree. There is a core of 7/8 good senior pro's who any half decent manager should be able to organise/motivate into a pretty competent team for the short/medium term.

Given
Holman
Dunne or Collins (No harm in keeping one of them for a bit)
N,Zogbia
Ireland
Gabby
Bent

My point precisely. Be under no illusions that once the dust settles, whoever we employ has a monumental job on their hands to haul this team away from the bottom six.

never underestimate though the value of confidence, morale and good coaching. It can do wonders even for players that look like duffers.

Any of the good young managers that are out there would do for me, AVB would be great or DiMatteo but do it quickly Villa so we can plan for the long term.

I disagree...

Stan has been on talk sport saying we are a bottom 5 squad... if thats the case why sack mcleish as he avoided the drop and thats all you can ask of a bottom 5 squad!

I honestly dont think we need that much adding to the team...

We have Bent, Ireland, Given, NZogbia as our senior experienced good players (agree not enough)

Then promising youngsters with t he right coaching we have:

Clarke, Lichaj, Baker looked good, Albrighton, Bannan, Herd, Gardner, Carruthers and of course Weimann!

I like the look of it...  Just the defence that look worrying...

To my that implies that the goals conceded and set pieces are as expected this season, but we should of been banging in the goals... not just 37!!!!

'However, Villa's American owner is also a long-term admirer of Moyes, who has been at Everton since 2002.

Villa know it would take around £7million in compensation to the Goodison Park club to get their man - and his large backroom staff.

US tycoon Lerner would also have to free up millions for transfers to lure the 49-year-old away from Everton, where he has a limited budget.

Villa will need to ascertain whether Moyes would quit for them if they make an official approach - they know they cannot afford to publicly miss out on a rival boss again.'

This is why the appointment is so crucial, with the right man we can to make small steps up the league next season, but we are a very long way away from MON´s reign, until Lerner invests once more in the squad. Confidence will take us so far and an improved style of play will make us all feel better, but as fans we are going to have to temper our expectations for the foreseeable future.

Nice to see everyone pretty much realising the new manager needs to get rid of the idiots we MUST ship out ie Warnock and Collins. Id say Dunne too but Im guessing out of him and Collins he is the lesser of two evils. Both in their last year of contracts? I'd take £3m for the pair and buy a new LB.

That squad is bottom half at best. We need to find out if any of these young players (not kids, most are in their early twenties) are good enough. That requires a manager with good coaching and motivational qualities. My gut feeling is that most will prove to be not good enough.

Another season of transition beckons - the third on the trot. My only consolation is that under McLeish, we would definitely have gone next season, so that alone is a step forward, but we need a huge overhaul.

Not Martinez - he didn't have the bottle this time last year - so forget him

Lambert or Rodgers for me.

The latter could give us a few good newspaper headlines

"Villa give .................. a good Rodgering!"
