in a way i want it to be a name no one has  mentioned before, someone left field, and edgy, someone who's very choice would say randy's grown a pair and is involved and engaged in the Villa again? Just a thought

Not sure I really want Lambert. It's all a bit MON-ball, hump-it-to-the-big-guy, run really hard and fast, get and score from set-pieces, limited self-expression for unheralded, rather jobsworthy players. It's all very admirable, but I don't think it really has the nuance that would suit us - it's bit too much underdog for us, if we really want to push on and get some swagger and assurance.

Go for AVB, I say. Promise him funds, as this is the last year before FFP comes in and we can use them, allow him to modernise and revolutionise everything he wants to, get rid of the bad apples and troublemakers, bring in, essentially, a new defence, utilise and develop the young talent and go for top 8 next season, and build on that. Hah, bloody easy this appointment lark, eh?

I agree with you.

Ditto

I think we should learn from last seasons mistakes. Dont go after a manager on the way down but rather on the way up. Steer clear from your usualy high profile out of work managers like Rafa, Ranieri etc and go for current relatively successful upcoming newcomers.

Whilst I am pleased it is the case, doesn't it seem just two seconds since we were discussing all of this last time round with at least some of the same names. Not sure my brain can take all the arguing about who would be best again

AVB is heavily linked with Roma and I have it on good authority Flores would be a disaster!

I think we need to be realistic that whomever we appoint, still has a monumentally tough job on their hands. Club policy is not going to alter and we are still lower half of the table at best until we get rid of last of the high earners and replace them. We have got to get a manager in who can work with youth players and find talent wherever it may be. Ideal would be Van Gaal of course, but back in the real world Lambert is the only choice that ticks these boxes.
As a club we´re a long way still from the return to glory days and nights, but at least Lambert would restart the long climb back.

Disagree I applaud at how quickly the board have reacted. Now we can all have a wonderful summer of speculation and renewed hope!

Although he's not my first choice I've had a fiver on Paul Lambert. But watch this space, Roberto Di Matteo is my favourite come what may on Saturday evening.

Anybody apart from:
Roeder
Curbishley
McCarthy
Connor
McLaren
Avram Grant

Risso confirms he wouldn't mind Steve Bruce as manager.

I was thinking the same yesterday as those around me were chanting his name.

I really don't know who I want, although I'm realistic enough to rule out a few of the names that will no doubt crop up again. I just want to see us move into the 21st century at some stage soon with our style of play.

Steve Bruce has taken his house off the market, according to a bloke I know who is an estate agent. May be nothing in it.

Thought Roma had lined up an ex player? Can't think of his name though
