We've already got the man onboard...step up Peter Grant.

What?

Hoddle or Capello.

I thought Capello with Wilkins would be a sound appointment.

Actually that's a good, but very expensive, shout.

 1. Brendan Rodgers. for philosophy on football although unrealistic
 2. Martinez - for philosophy on football although not sure he could deal with disruptive influences in squad
 3. Lambert - Looks as if he could deal with the disruptive influences in squad, would get results instantly but not sure how long he'd stay loyal for.
 4. Villas Boas - as talented as he is an unrealistic choice. Would require a big transfer kitty. Will end up somewhere bigger.

Darkhorse - Flores ?

Do not want

Curbishley - been too long out of game
Hughton - not done enough for me to prove he could do job ( not where he came from :) )
Hoddle/wilkins or any other London boys. Dont know why but just wouldn't feel right.

The way I'd play it is to sound out AVB's agent to see if he's interested, which I don't think he will be unless there's a lot of money to spend, and then go in strongly for Lambert.

Actually, if Randy does want to start spending again I could see him using that as a lure to try and get Moyes again.

Couild someone please explain to me the attraction of AVB. Unsuccessful in the Premiership, and moderately successful for one season with a team in a second tier foreign league.

Hoddle or Capello.

I said drunkenly in the pub a few weeks ago about Hoddle - the more i think about it the more i would not be unhappy at all with him

We would see some decent football played, if nothing else.

Not sure I really want Lambert. It's all a bit MON-ball, hump-it-to-the-big-guy, run really hard and fast, get and score from set-pieces, limited self-expression for unheralded, rather jobsworthy players. It's all very admirable, but I don't think it really has the nuance that would suit us - it's bit too much underdog for us, if we really want to push on and get some swagger and assurance.

Go for AVB, I say. Promise him funds, as this is the last year before FFP comes in and we can use them, allow him to modernise and revolutionise everything he wants to, get rid of the bad apples and troublemakers, bring in, essentially, a new defence, utilise and develop the young talent and go for top 8 next season, and build on that. Hah, bloody easy this appointment lark, eh?

I think from that statement they'll be making an ambitious appointment now and they understand what is expected.

Is what I think too. Bring it on!

I'm wondering why martinez would come now when he turned us down last year.  perhaps an increased salary and a decent amount of cash to spend?  However, think he'll wait to see what happens at Liverpool.  Think its got Lambert written all over it.

He turned us down because of an agreement with Whelan he'd already stay on. Personally I think its admirable. And clever too looking at how this season has worked out for us. Leave it a year, wait for some to do a terrible job having to use the likes of heskey etc then when you come in any improvement would look amazing in comparison.

I think after the MON disaster and the fiasco that was the season gone, that we need a coaching manager. Who fits that bill? We need the next Moyes, or even Moyes himself.
