There is no chance of O'Neill coming back so we can forget that one.

So far this morning I have woke up and read on this thread a return on MON and on another AM saying "Its not like we are the team on 82".

I just want a manager to come in, work within the boards criteria and at least give it a go. Tell the players and fans a like we are on the pitch to win. To motivate and orgainse the team to play at their full potential and make a few decent signings to fit within the new team.

Maybe then we can forget about the horrible MON and clueless AM and start enjoying watching VIlla again and not get so depressed talking about it!

I would like a youngish forward thinking manager. A manager who will stay with the club and build something solid. Someone who will have or will develop sound technical skills, and who will promote the young players at Aston Villa. A manager who can unearth talented young players from the lower league's and abroad and can be comfortable in the  bargain basement. A manager who above all, earns our respect and our patience. As a Villa fan if I can see a manager trying to do all of the above and we as a team progressing in the right direction I will have all the patience, tolerance and respect for our manager. Do not want round the block has beens, we definately need to take a gamble on one of these younger up and coming managers. After Mcleish I can honestly say we've got nothing to lose, we need to take a punt.

Returning to the thread title my answer would be Martin O'Neill. He'd have a full summer to galvanise us and re-energise the club, he did it before he can do it again. Can't see it happening anymore than I can see a bluenose qualify for MENSA but I'd love to have him back.

If not, then Lambert or Martinez. I'd have Wincey Willis or Pipkin rather than McLeish mind.

Reading that Rodgers article makes me want him. He actually sounds like a 21st century coach, rather than the kind of crsp mcleish comes out with. It'd be a risk and might take some time to bear fruit, but I think it would really benefit out kids

I don't think I've seen a villa team show the quality of movement that swansea showed at our place for a very long time

Yes please

He'd have to be backed to get rid of dome of the egos like dunne / Collins / warnock. Ireland would thrive I reckon and CNZ might even wake up. It would suit bent and possibly bannan too. I reckon we'd see Clark at centre back fairly sharpish

I am! It'll be a while yet before I get over it. I walk through the VP gates like a listless lovesick teenager hoping MON swaggers into view and falls into my arms before we walk up the Trinity Road hand in hand, remembering the Milner night at Wigan, Petrov's debut, the 5-1, the cup win at Reading and all those happy times.  I really need to let it go but I can't.

As for him piddling money up the wall, well show me a manager who wouldn't spend squillions if a board is mug enough to give it him? He didn't spend the money, Lerner did, so if you've got a beef with salaries and transfer fees have a word with our owners.

What about the bit when he shat on us at the worst time possible?

Each to their own, but I have too much pride in my club to have that egotistical twat back.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/11/brendan-rodgers-swansea-city

Reading that article considering our current state is tear-inducing.

That article is why he should be our first choice and why we would stand a great chance of getting him. We've got some talented kids that have been taught the right things and I would have confidence in transferring that into them as senior players. I think he would get much more value out of signings too.
