Dave Whelan stated on R5 last night after the game that Martinez was going nowhere, aka, he'll be expensive to get to talk to. We all know what Whelan is like and he'll have a laugh at us all over again if we go back there now. No thanks.

Whelan actually said - and this is true - he'd let Martinez "go to one of the biggest European clubs".

Ha ha ha. That's like me telling Mrs Walnuts, "OK, love, I give you my permission to go and shag Brad Pitt".

Can you imagine the comments from Dave Whelan if we were to approach Martinez again, probably something along the lines of "Why would Martinez want to take a step down. Have you seen the Premier League table?"

I can only see us interested in Lambert and with Paul Faulkner being a Norwich City fan, you'd expect he's been tracking his progress.

In the same vein, apparently the Paul Scholes to Villa deal is off as well.

Forget Juninho, I'm still waiting for an update on Hans Krankl.

I don't like the idea of a manager who has already turned us down once already, so I'd much prefer Lambert to Martinez.  Indeed I preferred Lambert to Martinez before they eventually appointed McLeish.

Seeing as the thread is going that way, have we had a bit accepted for Christian Vieri yet?

I’m erring towards Lambert despite his similarities with MON.  One thing that gives me hope that his football can evolve (and even now it is not a one dimensional as MON, often changing formations during matches etc) is his history in Germany and the fact that he took his badges there.

Reading interviews he appears to hold the German philosophy in very high regard so I’d imagine he is monitoring their coaching and tactic.  I’d hope that this could lead to villa becoming a mini Germany, getting the whole club playing “klinsmann’s” 4231.  He was also singing the praises of Sammer (Germany’s Technical Director) so I’d like to think he would be open to the idea of working with a technical director at Villa.

Ranieri being interviewed for the WBA job....

Bit of a John Gregory about him, teams go on long unbeaten runs then something goes wrong and they can't win for 3 months!

This has pretty much happened at all the clubs he's been at but still would be an upgrade on McLeish.
