Every day that passes convinces me that Paul Lambert could achieve great things at Aston Villa. There's just something right about him and the villa job. People linking him to MON forget a few things: MON isn't a bad manager if you take away his ego, stubbornness and apparent inability to look outside Britain and Ireland for players. Lambert is not MON. He learned his trade in a totally different era, played in Germany and has experience of the modern day Champion's League.

I don't think Rodgers or Martinez have been properly tested yet. Lambert has been a success as both a manager and a player. He has experience of European football, he knows what it takes to compete at the very top. This for me gives him a clear edge.

Martinez and Rodgers have never had to try and impose their will on seasoned Premier League Pros at a big club. Granted, neither has Lambert, but he can point to things our senior pros can't, like his CL medal. I think he could build something at villa if given the time.

Go and get him Randy!!!!!!!!!!

Dave Whelan stated on R5 last night after the game that Martinez was going nowhere, aka, he'll be expensive to get to talk to. We all know what Whelan is like and he'll have a laugh at us all over again if we go back there now. No thanks.

My preference is still Lambert, and I believe he is both gettable and would relish the challenge!

I am, however, having increasing doubts that McLeech will go. Please prove me wrong on that Randy!

I think Martinez is out of contract this summer.

No, he isn't IZ, he just signed a new one last year which is why he was loyal to them I believe! I might be wrong on that, but I heard what Whelan said last night right enough!

Martinez is gettable imo. He will be losing Moses this Summer as he won't sign a new deal and they won't have the funds to move on. If Randy backs him and gives him total ownership of the footballing side of the Villa I think he would be seriously tempted.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2128493/Wigan-stick-Roberto-Martinez-says-Dave-Whelan.html

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has promised to stick with manager Roberto Martinez for as long as he can, despite growing speculation the Spaniard will be free to walk away from the club next month.

Sportsmail understands that the improved contract Martinez was offered when he rejected the chance to join Aston Villa last summer remains unsigned, meaning he will be a free agent when his current deal runs out at the end of the season.

Whelan and Martinez, who continue to enjoy a close relationship, are believed to have a gentlemen’s agreement allowing the 38-year-old to leave the DW Stadium and join another club in the Barclays Premier League.

But the sense of loyalty that led to Martinez staying at the club last summer could yet see the highly rated young manager stay for a fourth year.

The contract remains on the table with Martinez’s concerns over the terms offered to his backroom staff believed to be behind his reluctance to sign.

The possibility of Whelan selling the club this summer and a number of senior players being out of contract could also be factors. He has been offered a sizeable bonus to keep Wigan in the top flight but, irrespective of how the season turns out, there is a growing feeling he will look for a new challenge.

However, Whelan and Martinez are keen to maintain a united front while Wigan still have a chance of staying up. ‘I will stick with Roberto for as long as I can,’ Whelan said on Wednesday.

If the board are stupid enough to keep Mcleish, they are up there with the most incompetant bunch of clowns ever to run a football club.

I bow to your greater knowledge IZ, in which case Whelan is a bigger clown that I thought giving that interview!

The interesting thing for Martinez is that his stock will never be higher than it is now if he stays at Wigan. He has beaten United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and pulled them back from the brink playing fantastic football.

I think he needs to leave this summer to progress himself.

I think if he's being sensible Martinez will leave Wigan this summer. He's done well keeping them in the league in the past two seasons on a small budget but there is only so long that you can do that. If he's smart, he'll know that Wigan will eventually go down sooner rather than later. Probably next season.
