I have never and still dont understand why so many ppl would like Martinez in charge at Villa. Could some of you please explain why you think he would do such a great job for us as I just dont see it.

Perhaps not my first choice but he builds teams with the emphasis on playing football and not relying on individuals.  His teams are greater than the sum of their parts by a long way.  Because of this he does not have to rely entirely on money.  Also, he must be a great motivator and instills belief in his players as shown by Wigan coming back from the dead the last two seasons.

I didn't want Martinez last year and still don't. His teams don't start playing until April, and whilst that is still better than McLeech who's teams don't ever start playing, we can do better. Lambert will come if approached, why would he not? Norwich are unlikely to go much further than they are and he'll never earn £2m a year with them. He's shown this season that he can mix it in terms of playing styles and has the tactical nous to do so. Sign him up please!

As for RDM, if he doesn't get the Chelski job he'll get one overseas of similar ilk.

the reason it didnt last time with Martinez is because we went round it the wrong way and got our knickers in a twist about what we were doing, i think they will have learnt from that and do things a bit better next time

This for me is the crucial bit. Next season will depend entirely on Randy Lerner. Will he have the bottle to admit he has got things badly wrong and to really go for it in putting things right? Or is he, as has been suggested all this season, an disinterested and stubborn owner who is happy for us to plod along.

We should have an idea within a fortnight or so.

Why are so many on here quick to run the club down.  We are an attractive club to manage.

As I and others have said, the young up and coming managers are not going to get to the top unless they use clubs like Villa as stepping stones.  No doubt some will reply that they do not want  a manager that uses us as a stepping stone.  In that situation we need to ensure that we keep progressing so that we keep hold of the manager or build a system so there is a ready made replacement.

I get the feeling that the wheels are in motion now. I think we will see a DOF come in. Someone like Comolli with one of either Lambert, Martinez or Poyet as coach. This is a massive summer for Lerner and co. This season would of been an eye opener for Randy. Certainly in my eyes this will be his last chance to get things right. Get it wrong and he will turn fans against him

Forget the fans, he'll never recoup his losses if he fails to get it right. You're right, it really is his last chance.

Lambert would be my choice. I just hope it's sorted quick.

...and that person will be Italian. And he's doing a temporary job at the moment.

With the Lerner/Faulkner knowledge of the football world being what it is, I assume you're talking about one of the waiters at your local pizzaria...
Very good.
This bit should be taken with a pinch of salt as with all ITK's........I heard yesterday that an exploratory approach has been made to the gentleman in question.

I’m surprised everyone ignored this.  Do you have a history of talking shit TLP?

I’d be happy with that.  A lot of football management is perception and “The Italian’s” stock must be pretty high right now despite his success being at least partially due to a bunch of corrosive players getting their way and wanting to play again.

You mention as a “coach”, does your ITK think we’ll be appointing a DoF (or something) too?

I acknowledge that he has little budget to work with, but I dont buy into DWs myth that Martinez is one of the best young managers in Europe, and I certainly dont see a manager who annually avoids relegation as any kind of great motivator, tactician or being suitable for the job at Villa Park. If Martinez is the best we can do then this club really is in the shite.

As I said earlier - RDM didn't have great success at the Boggies. He did well to get them up from the Championship but in 25 PL games he only got 26 points, conceding 48 goals along the way (see Statto). He's done well at Chelsea now that the dressing room got rid of AVB, but with those players at his disposal now happy his job was half done for him. Not sure he'd be a success for us given his albeit short stint at Olbiyun

All valid points.  I’d hope that he has learnt something from AVB with regards to thorough scouting (the opposition) and general dedication to work.  Working for a guy like that cannot be a bad thing.

Hoddle is a no no. He would completely knacker things up.

I wouldn't be against Hoddle, he'd be coming in off the back of the worst EVER home season and the worst points tally in 20 years, oh and he's not Alex McLeish.

What is there to knacker up?

Rodgers is still the stand out candidate for me.

It won't happen.

I wouldn't go for Houghton, I think we should be looking for someone with a bit more experience for the next one.
