I think Capello would be a disaster.  Just gut instinct.

I share your misgivings.

Depends entirely on the situation that he'd be working in.  I can't see that he'd want to join under the present circumstances at all though, so you needn't worry.

I for one would be delighted to see what he could do at Villa Park and with his knowledge of players, it wouldn't automaticvally mean he only wants the top stars. I'm sure he'd be more than capable of finding a few gems within our budget. If Randy is looking for a trusty pair of hands, he should look no further than Capello. It's a complete no brainer.
Not a chance in hell that Capello would come here with our financial situation.
He'd want a sizeable transfer budget which is something we can't/won't provide.

Hence the comment about Randy needing to invest to resolve our financial problem.
I don't think he can afford to though, or more likely doesn't want to due to waning interest.

I don't think Randy can afford not to invest. I'm still in the belief that wages rather than transfer fees it the main problem, especially if the player is young enough to sell-on at a later date. As for his interest in the club waning, I do think family matters have restricted his matchday visits to Villa Park but not his overall interest and overseeing the day to day operations. Maybe it would help if, like the Queen, we put a flag up over Villa Park when he's in residence, it may go some way to defy the myth that he's an absent owner.

Personally I'd prefer he ends the micro-management and concentrates on the big picture. He doesn't need to be at Villa Park every week, he just needs to make sure he's got the best team around him and the club are moving in the right direction.

Capello is a great manager but not right for us. We need somebody who can instill a winning and professional culture throughout the playing side of the club. I just can't see Capello working with the likes of Collins and Hutton....

Neither can I, I don't think for a minute they'd be here come the new season, probably both off to West Ham.

As for somebody that "can instill a winning and professional culture throughout the playing side of the club", ol' Fabio has won the league at every single club he's ever managed and is well known to be a strong disciplinarian, he's extremely professional and wouldn't take any prisoners, which is another reson why Collins and Hutton wouldn't be here.

Not sure why he's not right for us, we've tried the tactically clueless managers, why not for the first time in over 14 years bring in somebody that actually understands the game?

He's already said that money is not his priority, he can still live in London if he wants and he'd probably be willing to take a two year contract, something Italian coaches are used to rather than the 3 year expected by your British manager. I can't see him going to Chelsea and he must know the Villa well, it's been one of his most frequently visited grounds whilst England manager. I'm sure he can see our potential and would be interested in the job.

Why can't you see him going to Chelsea? They have better players, a hell of a lot more money, and are well equipped to have a bash at the Champions League - they're in the final of it in a few weeks.

It'd be amazing to get Capello, but Chelsea is where he's headed. If he stays in England of course.

Capello's star is on the wane a little following his England tenure, so I can't see Roman going for him when he can virtually pick and choose from the best managers in the world.

Yep, there's no chance of Capello coming here - you'd have to living in a dream world to believe that he'd come to us, with our squad, with a sell to buy policy in place, and want to turn it round. He's 65, he had those sort of roles 25 years ago.

Make no mistake we would be a massive challenge and a 60+ year old manager won't imo have the drive and commitment to see it through. It is dare I say a good 5 year project.

I don't think he is either, but Chelsea in also a non-starter, IMO.

If you discount the "wouldn't want to happens" and the "ain't gonna happens"you are left with a pretty narrow field.

Basically, the bloke from Southampton and yet another Blose manager.

My thoughts, too. Now who else is there in the PL that will be looking for a manager this summer? Racist FC should be but will probably stick with KKK for another season. The Baggies? Do me a favour. Redknapp is staying at Spuds, Moyes likewise at Everton, Barcodes happy..

Basically, Capello says he'll either take a job in the PL or he'll retire and take a media job. Why not Aston Villa?

I'd be interested to hear from Risso and any other bean counter regarding the clubs finances. Does it make sense for Randy to invest as part of our financial recovery (given the right football management team, obviously)?

I'm only guessing but Lerner must have a criteria for next appointment, IF he sacks Eck i.e.

finish top 10/avoid relegation
good spotter of talent/buys cheap shite
cheap to hire/local therefore avoids relocation costs

etc.

that narrows it down to er Hughton.

I'd think Rodgers and Houghton also meet that criteria, just with the added cost of compensation to their clubs.
