Pep's leaving Barca,i can only think its due to the abuse McLeish got,and he knows he's no1 contender.

yes i just seen that as well,
he's very close to those Quatar people who are buying Villa at the end of the season, so its all working its way out nicely

i love it when a plan comes together

I think do ok at us as long as we got the English Lionel Messi (Emile) to sign a new deal. ;)

I'm sure somebody else has said this, but I really miss Steve Stride.

Everything great comes from Castle Brom. It's just the way it is....

Yes it does...........great things happen there..............

At last some insight.

I'd love Di Matteo. I don't see Roman giving him the gig. He'll want a marquee name. I might be wrong, and he might see sense, but I get the feeling Roberto will be available in the summer.

Failing that, tempting Moyes over would also be nice. Can't see it though.
In all honesty I'd take Curbishly over Eck. Or maybe Fat Sam if West Ham don't come up. Our ambitions should be higher but I suspect they won't be.

I wouldn't be adverse to Martinez, Rodgers or Lambert.

As soon as AVB got sacked, I thought about Di Matteo, he did a more than decent job at the Baggies and has plenty of experience both as a player and assistant/manager.

You can stick Curbishley and Fat Sam where the sun don't shine. After years of crap football at Villa Park, we need a manager that understands the modern game.

Martinez can do one, Rodgers we should speak to but for me, Lambert would really suit the Villa, a thinking man's Martin O'Scabcunt.

As Randy calculates the managerial pay offs, he must surely realise that it's so important to get the right man and sell a few tickets next season as right now Villa Park will look half empty next season.

Before we even think about a new manager, as others have mentioned, the first job is to recruit someone who is a little more savy in the English game - Steve Stride or David Dein for instance.

BBC Football is saying Guardiola is on the brink of quitting, so he would be nice and the sun website is saying Villa are targetting Lambert, believe that if you want but it was in the sun.

Personally i'd go for Gus Poyet, respected player who played at the top level, and i've been down to the Amex 4 or 5 times this season, and what he's done down at Brighton is pretty impressive.

Can you expand on the “done” bit?  What is it that you think he could transfer to Villa?
I am not deliberately being awkward but, whilst I like the idea of Poyet, I want evidence that the guy is a progressive manger with ambitious ideas.

I agree with this.  I do not have too much of a problem with Randy being an absent owner IF there is a guy who we can trust with the experience and knowhow pulling the strings.  Randy pumped in - what was it? - 25m last year of his own money (added to the 200m? before that).  That is not the actions of someone who doesn’t care.

However he has many faults, the biggest one being the vacuum of power at the club.  We need a talisman at  board level who will shake the club up (and communicate more) and then a manager who will do the same from the playing side.

I don't think it could be clearer. Guardiola has just stepped down at Barcelona...so McLeish will be going there!

If they do can him in the summer I wouldn't be upset with Di Matteo.

McLeish will be biding his time for the Man U job.  Surely Ferguson would have no objections to such a remarkable manager taking over there.

Lee Clark has been mentioned a couple of times, can't understand why Huddersfield sacked him. I think he is in the same mould as Rodgers and Lambert, perhaps the step up to us if we are still in the Premiership maybe too much but he didn't have a bad record at Huddersfield. I think he would be worth a gamble, and if we did go down maybe he could persuade Ryan Rhodes to sign for us who I think would score for fun in the Championship. UTV
