worst football i ever saw at Villa Park,
even when we were top of the league i can remember coming out of the ground thinking 'i dont know if i can take much more of this'
Carbone and Ginola were great players who Gregory hardly ever used because he was to negative, he would be a terrible choice as a replacement for AM as he is exactly the same

You have got to be on a wind up with that one.  Worst football ever?  Really?  I can name some great matches under Gregory, eg the 3-2 vs Arsenal, the same score v Leeds and so on.  Are you really arguing that the football under Gregory was worse than that under Taylor mk II, O'Leary or especially McLeish?

We had some great games at Villa Park under Gregory.  It all went wrong in the end, but isn't that the case with practically very Villa manager? I'd take Gregory over McLeish any day.

I'd take Barry Fry over Oh 'Eck

How about the regular 10+ games every season we had under him where we didn't win? 1-0 at home to a truly shit Bradford where we played 5 at the back? Losing 4-1 at home to Cov. Losing 3-0 at home to 3rd division Fulham?

After his first 12 months in charge we were awful to watch in the main. Avoid defeat seemed to be the mantra rather than try and win the games. Which is why our crowds were pretty dire under him a lot of the time.

Whenever I think of the shit, dull games under JG, the first one that comes to mind, above the draws, defeats and games against Leicester, is that fucking game against Bradford.

John "Five at the back against Chester" Gregory? I'd be tempted to stick with AM.

Eh?

The defenders that day were

Watson, Southgate, Ehiogu, G Barry,

midfield was Taylor, Boateng, Hendrie and Thompson

Dublin and Vassell up front.

they are always great games when you win, and we were getting good results under Gregory there is no doubt about that.
but his tactics to get those results were more negative than AM, that is why he would be a awfull replacement to Mcleish,
i just cant believe after a year of this dross people would vote for more of the same with Gregs.

by the way, i think he's a great bloke otherwise, just as a manager he sends me to sleep

When did we lose to Bradford?  Don't recall losing to them in their two year stint in the Premier League.

I'll say this for Gregory.

He made you feel like he thought he was manager of the greatest club in the world, and that we should bow down to no-one.

He may have been bullshitting his way through it all of course, but fucking hell we could do with a bit of that again.

We didn't.

We won, but it still stands out as one of the worst games I've watched, and fucking hell it's had some competition of late.

We didn't. Which is why I didn't say losing like I did the other examples.

Christ, I'd settle for playing badly occasionally and winning 1-0, all the best clubs do it.  In any case, I don't think anybody was seriously putting a case for Gregory as new manager, just that for three games he'd be a better bet than McLeish.  When Gregory took over a rapidly sinking Villa team, th result was amazing.  10 wins from 13 games, including six in a row at one point.  Imagine that, a six game winning streak!  We haven't even managed back to back wins once this season.  That run also contained wins against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.  He'd do me for the next 3 games.  Or Little, I'm not fussy.

I'm not sure what's making me feel more sick right now,the fact that there's a great chance of us going down,or that we face one of the most important appointments in the summer since 87,and the two people making this choice have shown they have no grasp of football.

I'm sure somebody else has said this, but I really miss Steve Stride.
