Get John Gregory back.

Not a bad shout maybe.

i thought we'd had our fill of negative defensive managers ?

He got a bit dour towards the end, but we had some great games under Gregory.  I don't remember much negativity when he took over, we won about 8 out of 10 matches.

I always get surprised about the level of dislike towards Gregory. Like Risso, I remember some really exciting times when he was manager albeit as mentioned becoming more defensive towards the end of his reign. Players like Carbone, Merson - one or two of them wouldn't go amiss now.

worst football i ever saw at Villa Park,
even when we were top of the league i can remember coming out of the ground thinking 'i dont know if i can take much more of this'
Carbone and Ginola were great players who Gregory hardly ever used because he was to negative, he would be a terrible choice as a replacement for AM as he is exactly the same

John "Five at the back against Chester" Gregory? I'd be tempted to stick with AM.

There's not a lot about so I would maybe give Curbishley the opportunity...but only when he learns to say Birmingham properly.

You have got to be on a wind up with that one.  Worst football ever?  Really?  I can name some great matches under Gregory, eg the 3-2 vs Arsenal, the same score v Leeds and so on.  Are you really arguing that the football under Gregory was worse than that under Taylor mk II, O'Leary or especially McLeish?

absolute cack football, i can name an away game against Chelsea under AM,
i'm not taliking about individual matches, i'm talking about the mindnumbing defensive ultra negative formations the man put out

yes it was worse than AM as he had a lot better players to choose from and it was still crap

ps, you forgot the Southampton match, that normaly always gets mentioned

Would you trust "Where's Wally" to get the right man in? I don't.

How about the regular 10+ games every season we had under him where we didn't win? 1-0 at home to a truly shit Bradford where we played 5 at the back? Losing 4-1 at home to Cov. Losing 3-0 at home to 3rd division Fulham?

After his first 12 months in charge we were awful to watch in the main. Avoid defeat seemed to be the mantra rather than try and win the games. Which is why our crowds were pretty dire under him a lot of the time.

We had some great games at Villa Park under Gregory.  It all went wrong in the end, but isn't that the case with practically very Villa manager? I'd take Gregory over McLeish any day.
