Is Hodgson still out of contract in the summer or has he signed a new one?  If he is out of contract, he might not be a bad shout.  He is well versed in Scandanavian football, so we maybe could get Laursen in working under him with the view to succeeding him in a few years and Hodgson moving upstairs.

said almost the same thing a few weeks ago, any manager with laursen under him for 2 or 3 years ready to step in when the times right

Hodgson never seems to do it at 'big clubs'. I fear his methods are great at places where players have no airs and graces and where expectations aren't all that hight.

At Villa he could run into a cul-de-sac as he did at Liverpool. Maybe with Laursen there with him there'd be more patience and more of a sense that a long-term project was being embarked on.

Finance wise we're presently in a similar position to the likes of Fulham and WBA, so I don't see that as a problem.

Some fans will have a pop regardless, but next season, which I expect to be under a new manager anyway, will be one of stabilising the club.  He'd be great for that.

yes you are probably right,
but i hate those words like 'stabilising' or even worse 'consolidating'
just reeks of treading water for a bit, while nothing interesting happens

and i just want something good to happen

Claudio Ranieri has said he is interested in managing in the Premiership again. Ranieri, who was only sacked from Chelsea because he wasn't Mourinho...that's the level Villa should be looking at. We've. Got. To. Think. *Big*.

Hodgson is not a Top 6 club manager. We need to be looking at that type of manager who is cut out to handle a club with Top 6 (or even Top 8 ) pretensions.

Just had to put a space in there as 8 followed by a ) automatically produces the sunglasses emoticon...:-/...

There might be a wee snag with that.

That is of course assuming we do survive...which tbh I think will only happen if we get rid of McLeish after Saturday (assuming we don't beat Albion, which I think we won't)....

I'm not sure why people in one sentence say they'd like us to try to play decent football, and in the next suggest Hodgson as the new manager. His sides rarely play entertaining football; largely he does the same thing as McLeish does, only much better - his philosophy is similar to Big Eck's.

If we went down that road I’d rather Sam Allardyce over Neil Warnock.

Whether  we stay up or go down I’d like to see Brian McDermott.

No to Allardyce or Warnock, christ we've had enough bad football.

Would like to give Grayson a go if we go down. His Young, has Villa links, and some experience and is not Sam Allardyce or Neil Warnock.

It's pretty obvious that we need a new manager, relegation or not. Needs to be someone young, hungry with fresh ideas, who is able to get the best out of the youth.

Personally i'd go for Gus Poyet, respected player who played at the top level, and i've been down to the Amex 4 or 5 times this season, and what he's done down at Brighton is pretty impressive.

They're the exact opposite to us at the minute, they play out from the back, all of the players look comfortable on the ball, they pass and move well, and this is pretty much with the same set of players when he took over. It's funny seeing him on the touchline sometimes, cause if the keeper or defender launches it,Poyet does his nut,you could call him the anti-McLeish.

Whoever it is,it needs to be someone who can stamp their mark like Sir Graham did in 87.
