Bloody hell I hadn't even considered Benitez. Gimme gimme gimme.

Benitez sounds unlikely as we rejected him last summer. Admittedly he could have been a cheaper option than McLeish as he was out of a job, but it's well worth paying a little extra to get a man with two recent relegations on his CV rather than a man with two recent CL finals.

I don't remember hearing that we rejected Benitez? Where are you hearing that from?

Don't remember where I heard it, but apparently Benitez wanted "complete" control, and the board decided that he reminded them too much of MON to be considered for the job. I don't know if it is true, but it fits with the interviews with Benitez where he said that he wanted his next job to be a "project" where he could spend time building a decent team rather than bring instant success.

If he's that way inclined then fair enough, but that pic looks pretty badly photoshopped to me!

Edit: Sorry, should have the thread fully before posting!

only the other day there were some photo's of me that made me look very fat, clearly been tampered with

You're not fat John.

Why all the hate for Curbishley?

I think he's a decent-good manager tbh.

Fashion

Agreed.

I think the reputation he has got is a bit unfair tbh.

Look at what happened to Charlton when he left.

I'm really not sure how to feel about that.

On one hand I can understand the board not wanting another MON character, as they still probably felt hurt from the manner of his departure. However, to turn down a manager with his credentials is surely ludicrous, and the fact that we have such a strong youth aspect to our squad means that we were a perfect model of a team that could be slowly built into a decent team.

Based on how Kevin Mac and Sid being involved in the first team seemed to be a condition on McLeish talking the job, this might -naturally enough- have put off the likes of Hughes and Benitez.

But whereas their stock was high and they could (as far as they were concerned)  insist on their own men and nobody else, McLeish after relegation with That Lot wasn't bargaining from a position of strength.

Was Grant his Assistant at Bloos? Just wondering on his reputation and whether he might actually be pulling the strings. Maybe he has upset the players?

Grant went to the Noses in July 2010 following the departure of Roy Aitken.

if they appoint someone who has general appeal, it might be a good time to come in,

for instance last year when some were calling for the head of Houllier and proclaiming 'anyone but Houllier' in every post, they probably hadnt factored in the appointment of Mcliesh,

so next time round any new manager might get a bit more time,

not one of you on here has a scooby doo what is going on! i wish i could tell you that i know better!
i have, within the last week spoken to 2 'insiders' at the club! both are on first name terms with the ceo, Paul, and both have come out with completely the opposite of what each had to say!
Mcleish is off as soon as the last game has happened and he is definitely going to be the manager of our club next season, whatever division we are in!
these little releases about benitez are chinese whispers! started on sites like this.
trust me, we know feck all and arent going to soon!

Why?

Why wouldn't we want a young, talented up and coming manager with a bit of passion? Or are we to believe that Paolo Di Canio is a facist or something like that.

I'd much rather have Di Canio, than Mcleish and his dour, shit, embarrassing attempt at management.

Too much passion, you could say. His exact phrase was "I'm a fascist, but I'm not a racist". Can't say I want that at our club.

So if Mourinho said he was a fascist you would turn him down?

Personal views and all that...
