Brendan Rodgers

Why go for Martinez when he told us to get lost last season...........

Because we're grown ups, not children?

Not for me and he isnt the tactical genius he is made out as for the first 4 months of every season his teams are rubbish

so keeping Wigan the smallest club in the Prem by some distance is just a bit of luck ?

working mainly with other peoples cast offs and turning them into better players, whilst at the same time sticking to his footballing principles and trying to play the game on the floor is nothing to do with tactics ?

And Wigan only turning up in the last four weeks of the season? Again.

He's done nothing up there to convince me he's any good.

Jurgen Klopp?!
Would be the absolute top of my list without a doubt, sadly he's going onto bigger things than us.

Now that WOULD be a statement of intent.

Martinez is now odds on with most bookies. Lambert out to 5-2/3-1.
Ranieri, Benitez 14/16-1 with odds falling.  Klinsmann out to 33-1. Brendan Rodgers looks like getting a few bob on him. Who knows, but Martinez in the man for me; If we can get him.

Brian, after what I've seen this season I'd take a Spit the Dog/Bob Carolgies dream team.

I don't get the Martinez love-in, but each to their own opinion! It's still Lambert for me, I just think he'd be a great fit, however, a Frank Rijkard (sp?) type wouldn't go amiss if Norwich want silly compo for him!

Lambert and Martinez both have 3 years left on their present contracts I believe, not that that really makes any difference these days!

I wonder if there is any real likelihood of a DoF appointment to work above the current coaching team? And what kind of reaction would that get?

I don't think it's a goer, to be honest. I think it really does need a strong manager to come in and completely change the culture at the club (by which I mean, get rid of Dunne, Collins, Hutton...;-)), and I doubt that keeping MacDonald et al would achieve that.

Martinez is not the man for Villa.

He wasnt last season, he isnt now.

Paul Lambert gets my vote. Any plans for a Poll for this thread?

Martinez odds on
Do the bookies know something we don't or are they just covering themselves

I do wonder why Martninez only gets his teams to play when it matters and that puts me off. The last thing we want is another relegation scrap.

I'm pretty sure we'll end up with Lambert, which I think would be a good appointment, he'd certainly get us organised and playing with discipline and I'm sure the crowd would give him the time to implement his ways after the disastrous McLeish era.
However there's a nagging thought in my head and that's that of Villa-Boas, while he'd no doubt be a risk I can't help but think if we took the chance that he could go onto be one of our finest appointments ever made. He's going to be desperate for another crack at the premier league after his unsuccessful time at Chelsea, he knows the European leagues inside out and tries to play attacking attractive football, I just have the feeling we'd be perfect for each other but I doubt it's a risk that Randy would be willing to take and will go for the sensible safe option of Lambert.

Exactly, I dont buy into how great a manager he is, as Wigan lost 8 on the bounce back in November and were written off, its not like he took over at Wigan in January and has saved them from the abyss in 4 months!

My mates just told me he's gone the gym (the Belfry) and Martinez is in there.

I don't believe he would wind me up (he told me he's being straight...but he is a nose, and if he was surely he would say a silly name) , but I would take an educated guess that as he's gone to odds on with the bookmakers that he has possibly been seen round here by others?

If its true that seems like some inbelievably rapid action by the board.
