The whole thing was deeply flawed.

One minute he'd be saying that he doesn't have full access to the Villa Park sanctum, next he'd be giving insider snippets away.

Despite repeated warnings from him and mods about not discussing playing matters, he invariably always did.

His last few comments on here and VT before he left were beyond parody

'You wouldn't dare say that to my face at the ground.'

'We'll finish 4th, er...I mean 5th, my finger slipped.'

'Imagine what McLeish could do with Randy backing him with our resources.'

On the other side of the coin, there were people who just went out of their way to wind him up, people who went potty because he hadn't answered them promptly enough and people who used to ask him about the most bizarre subjects, everything from Balti pies to tours of duty in Vietnam.

It was a Moderator nightmare.

I don't really get your last sentence, but the reason there was no "he's left" warning from us was because we didn't know he'd left.

The last contact we had was he asked us to reopen his thread (which had been locked for a while), which we did, then he just disappeared from contact.

Nobody knew he was going. Nobody was informed, whether they were on the inside, the outside, worthy or unworthy.

I couldn't get to the game on Saturday (usually get invited to a colleague who has a family season ticket).  He text me on Saturday evening, not to give me some friendly banter but quote "sad to see the villa with so little  fight and so little direction. far worse teams come here and give it a go. i was embarrassed for every villa fan".

This really annoys me.

That thread gave us nothing but grief the entire time it was up, and we would repeatedly ask - pretty much beg - peoiple to do two things, not talk to him about football issues, and show the bloke some respect, and on both of those things, we constantly got ignored.

Maybe if you've got problems with the way the thread was moderated, you might have been part of the problem?
