Mat Kendrick ‏@MatKendrick
The ball is in Genk's court, #avfc have made an improved offer on their original one and would go a bit higher, but won't be held to ransom

So Kendrick has basically told Genk to ignore this offer as will make a third one?

QPR squad ‘could do with 20 or 30 more players’, admits Hughes

QPR manager Mark Hughes has revealed he is still looking to add around 20 to 30 players to his squad before the transfer window closes on Friday.

Whilst being happy with deals for Andy Johnson, Ryan Nelsen, Rob Green, Samba Diakite, Fabio da Silva, Park Ji-Sung and Junior Hoilett, Hughes admits there are still some areas of the squad that need strengthening.

QPR kicked off their Premier League campaign in dismal fashion as they were hammered 5-0 at home by Swansea City on the opening day of the season.

And Hughes will be hoping for results to improve quickly, as he looks to acquire a wealth of experienced players near the end of their careers to sit out most games.

“We’re delighted with the signings we’ve managed to complete so far,” said the manager. “But there are a couple of areas where we may be looking to bring in five or six fresh faces.”

QPR attacking options

Hughes stressed the importance of improving the squad’s attacking options with currently only Bobby Zamora, DJ Campbell, Jay Bothroyd, Djibril Cisse, Jamie Mackie, Rob Hulse and now Andy Johnson available to him up front.

“We’re hopeful of bringing in maybe three or four strikers in if we can get them. But we will see. What we don’t want to do is rush into spending money on players who won’t have an impact on the squad.”

“We want players at this club who are hungry for success and willing to give their all to sitting on the bench as well as sitting in the stands or indeed outside of the stadium.”

Hughes continued: “Luckily we already have a great bunch of players who are willing to work tirelessly to be uninvolved in the majority of our games, so hopefully only a few minor tweaks are needed.”

“I think the squad could do with 20 or 30 players to come in before the transfer window closes. But we would be lucky if we were to achieve that, so we will have to wait and see what we can do between now and then.”

“Luckily, we will have Kieron Dyer fit in time to feature in his solitary game of the season, so that is almost like a new signing for us.”

To be fair to QPR, Kjaer and Granero would be great signings. They're betting the mortgage on staying up this season though. Imagine that wage bill in the Championship.

Simon Kjaer as well? Where's that been said??

It was on SSN. Whether it happens or not obviously remains to be seen but it's a clear step up from most of their other signings so far.

Just back from work, any new signings or reliable links.

You've got to be joking. Seriously underwhelmed yet again in this window - just a left-back from Boro - their fans don't seem that bothered by him going. Well done Randy!

Jesus mate...just a lb from boro??  Thought he was our 5th signing this summer (6 if you include Guzan re-signing), and still in for at least 1/2 more.  What do you want? Grow up.

I think they want £10m+ signings as that will show that we are competing.  I have no problem with villa buying young players like Bennett and Lowton.  Look at Kyle walker for example.  He never had any premier league experience yet he had a successful spell at sheff utd in the championsip and then had a very good half season at villa.  Lets hope Bennett and Lowton can do the same for us.

He took a couple of years to get to that level though. We don't have the luxury of waiting that long. We could do with a couple of signings that will hit the ground running or I'm worried it'll be another long, miserable season.

What about Demba Ba, Ben arfa, Tiote, Cabaye, Papiss Cisse?  all players with little or no PL experience at this level but all seem to have done well.  Im not making a direct like for like comparisons to the players we have signed.  merely just stating that players can make an impact in the PL just like those mentioned did.

I'm not talking about Premier League experience as such, but players with any top class experience. All of those you named have that and are all internationals.

Do you think the Genk officials are going to be monitoring the twitter account of a birmingham based Journo?

Can I be the first to say I like QPR? In my days of actually attending football matches it was always one of my favourite away grounds, plenty of pubs nearby, nice compact stadium and always the chance you could bump into Mick Jones from The Clash (I didn't). And Stan Bowles is one of my favourite ever players.

If we are going for the West London love-in then Brentford are my favourite club from those parts. Have a couple of friends who support them so been to Griffin Park a few times. Pub on every corner of the ground. And you can still stand. Also they hate the Neanderthals from The Sty and dates back to times in the mid 90s when they smashed one or more of said pubs.

So, effectively one day left then.  Going to have our work cut out it would seem.

Well, it's one day to tie up a player we've already made two bids for, so that's hardly a big ask in the frantic rush that is the last day of the transfer window.

I'd imagine the DCM that we're also supposed to be after will be more of a rush, but then he's likely to be in the country already.

Yes, but what a day it promises to be! Hoping for Villa's best Deadline day ever, none of this sitting around waiting for nothing, a signing every couple of hours will do nicely.
