If he is the only striker in, worry yes, but if Benteke comes and Gouffran comes as senior options with this kid being a gamble, why the hell not at that price. Maybe Lambert has seen something we have not, I would bet to a man none of us have seen him play. Ditto Stephens, who seems to have a good goal record from midfield in the lower leagues. Giving himself options.

I still don't think this is an 'instead of Benteke' signing. I'm holding my horses and anticipating possibly 4/5 new-faces coming in before the deadline.

How can we possibly be in the shit moneywise, our owner has just banked £600m from selling the Browns? We will definitely be in the shit moneywise if we are relegated this year and miss out on next years bumper TV deal! Maybe someone should enlighten Mr Lerner, that way if he invests now, he'll get it back in 12 months!

Riiiight, this is all a result of Lerner's monetary policy. In reality, PL is coming to him and saying, "Randy, give me 10 million pounds so that I can go buy 'Proven Premier League Player X'!" and Randy replies, "No, Paul, here is 500K (or whatever it is) for Bowery. Have you seen him? He can really do the business and the price is right! I have been spending all my time scouting the lower leagues for these bargain basement players." Sheesh! PL knows who he wants and has targeted those players and brought them to the attention of PF. If you do not like the players he is bringing in, then take it up with Lambert. Has anyone noticed that this is fairly typical of PL's modus operandi? It has worked well in the past, so why not allow him the opportunity to build the team his way without suggesting that he would really be building a Barcelona-like squad if "only that pesky Randy had not thwarted him."

Hang on there, pelty.

My post was refering to another post saying we are in the shit money wise.

I at no point said this Bowery fella is going to be useless, nor did I question PL's judgement. In fact its the opposite, Im supporting PL's judgement as we know he went after Benteke but was told £5.5m is not enough. If Randy wants PL to do his job he should back him now rather than later, when it will be too late.

Apologies to you, then, AvFc4eVeR, but the post still applies to those who suggest that buying lower league players instead of established PL players it to be laid solely at the feet of Lerner and an unwillingness to spend money.

our transfer policy is the polar opposite of QPR, who dont seem to want to sign players under 30

Next few days will be interesting won't they. Sorry Pelty, but you will have to forgive people getting twitchy after the start to the season we have had and the tripe that has been served up for the last couple of years.

I think we should sign both; upcoming potential youngsters and more experienced players for higher leagues (not necessarely from premier league). I'm gonna be pretty worried that we're ahead of long season if we dont sign any more experienced players.

The problem with players from lower league is that even though they might be good and promising they have higher chance of buckle under the stress of expectations.

There's nothing wrong with buying potential.

So long as this isn't the addition to our striking options we were hoping for.

Good to see we are doing shrewd business,  looking at the developing talent in the lower leagues and also looking to buy abroad. Wouldn't take much into account from another teams message board....if he steyed with them he would have been too good for Villa, as he's gone he's crap...that's how it goes.

Bennett, Stevens, Benteke, Bowery...would seem good value from what little I know about them. One more starting midfielder would be cool as well.

Time to trust PL..and it will take him a while.

I'm not at all trying to be negative here, but I was just thinking back and wondering how many of these kind of signings have actually come off for us. Mark Delaney was about the last one that I can remember, that really did...

Randy may have sold the browns for a lot of cash but he doesn't want to spend it on us

Why would he? We have an average home attendance of just over 33K, despite us having some of the cheapest prices in the PL. Just over 13K turned up last night with tickets priced at £12. He's tried throwing money at Villa and it just didn't work. He's still going to have to put his hand in his pocket this week to bring new players in but I think it's unreal to expect him to throw stupid money around again. Nobody here would do it so I don't understand why we expect him to do it.

I feel Randy will always 'find' the money should Lambert think it necessary but let's try and be realistic. Let Lambert build something that's not built on quicksand. It may take longer to build but it'll be around for a hell of a lot longer than the gold straw house built by MON.

Apparently he is a biggish lad which is probably what we need in the reserves as the academy are good at developing tidy footballers like Bannan/Burke but we need a bit of muscle?

we will be relegated starting with Bowery next game .   Lets hope there is some proper signings.

Hands up if you're a better judge of young football talent than Paul Lambert!
