I'd take Lambert as back up but again, he's 30, Would he be after a final pay day and would he want to come?

In my eyes Delfouneso is our 4th choice striker, and I don't think he's ever going to cut it at this level. Any signing better than him will be an improvement to the squad.

I believe Cresswell from Ipswich is the main left back target and Bennett has been lined up if Ipswich dont agree a fee

Even if the new players wages meant we could not sign someone in January or next summer?

Having seen Bannan play again in that very deep quarter back role last night it got me thinking about Charlie Adam. Adam's range of passing and dead ball delivery is considerably better than Bannan's and think he would be a vast improvement. If he was available, I think we should try and get him

Sorry but this post is just very very strange to me.  You're basically saying that, having seen Bannan put in a man of the match performance, it has prompted you to want us to sign a replacement for him?

Moving away from that Adam would be a very poor signing for me.  Not for his ability (which is massively overstated by people who have watched him on highlights anyway) but more for his attitude.  If we sign another central midfielder in this window I want it to be someone who can be a leader, we just don't have that in midfield at the moment.  Someone who sets the tempo of the play and gets us doing the right things for the match situation, rather than falling back into the bad habits of last year (like we did against Everton) when things go wrong.

Not only would that make us better immediately but that attitude is something that players like Bannan, Delph, Albrighton, etc need to adopt.

Firstly, I didn't think Bannan was man of the match, in my opinion it was Stephen Ireland. I also think Charlie Adam has a better range of passing than Bannan and would therefore be an improvement on Bannan. I like Darren Bent, and think he's a great goalscorer, but if we could sell him and sign Messi I would, because (like Adam), I think he is a better player than the player we have playing there at the moment?

As said, Adam's passing ability is vastly over-estimated.  He gives the ball away far more than the highlights lead people to believe and when he does give it away he often does very little to try to get it back.  Bannan at least tries to make up for a poor pass by working to get it back.

I just don't think Adam would be a good signing at all, his reputation is based on the highlights of half a season which was 18months ago, to see so many people still caught up in the media frenzy about him is frustrating, he was a big part of the reason that Blackpool went down despite looking good at times.

Adam is shit. We need someone with a better work ethic and who'll last 90 minutes. He didn't. Holloway always said as much. He could accept Adam leaving the pitch after 60-70 minutes job done, but that's at Blackpool. He can't cut it at a better side. He's only ever going to be an average fish at a small pond at his best. He needs to go back to the championship or low end EPL and be someones show pony. We need better. Much better. He sweet left peg aside he's very limited. Bannan's potentially better, and he's not exactly rated by many on here. If we signed Adam he'd be getting mullered on here within a month.
Plus I'd rather it a glass sandwich than deal with Liverpool.

I think we need someone more athletic and mobile. Hopefully on form KEA and Ireland can keep the ball moving quickly and accurately.

Linked with a striker from Chesterfield. I think we need some players who are the finished product rather than prospects.

If we are looking for a left back then apparently L'pool have one in the making ..a certain SDowning esq formerly of this manor.

What a laugh!!......Downing and tackling...surely some mistake there

I'm a little disappointed we haven't gone in for Kieran Richardson, would have been an ideal attacking left back, and has the Premiership experience we're lacking.

As this site's self-appointed resident Bristol Rovers expert, I've been praising Rickie Lambert for several years (most recently, two pages ago).

Even though he's now 30, I'd still take him as a back up striker. He's also pretty good with the dead ball.

However, I'd still prefer Villa to be going after Jordan Rhodes.
