I dread to think the over reactions to our first league defeat of the season if people are concluding that CNZ should be sold on the back of a friendly!

However I do agree that without gabby and bent firing we may really struggle to score. And I definitely have concerns about the defence and solidity in midfield. I don't rate herd so would really like a better option in there. I worry that someone like Nolan will just run through our midfield like he did for Newcastle a couple of years ago.

Frimpong is a good shout IMHO

The concerns r.e N'zogbia go back to last season. He's literally done bugger all. Albeit he's been played out of position tactically under TSM. He should be sold. Going back to his Newcastle days I don't think he can hack being at a big club and is probably more suited at a lower club I.e Wigan where he is a big fish.

We're not exactly world beaters these days. I'd say it's hard to justify selling one of our players on the grounds that he 'can't hack it at a big club', we can't afford to be that picky.

Lambert will get the best out of N'Zogbia, i'm convinced of it.

In fairness, Matt, it's not just one friendly, I think CN'Z has had a poor pre season from what I've seen (albeit highlights)
I agree on the strikers, though. However at some point the likes of Weimann will have to be given a go to prove themselves.
I think our midfield is much stronger so it won't be a push over like last season.
I do rate Herd, I think he could be a big asset in the coming years. You have to remember that we only saw him in a struggling team, so with better players around him he'll only improve.

Is Herd injured ?

If not, I'd use him alongside Karim at the start of the season and sacrifice one of Ireland, Zog and Bannan.

I think that Fonz has now had enough chances. Its time to go out and get another proven goalscorer (albeit at a lower level) in the form of Rhodes.

I was impressed with Annan at the World cup too and was touting us to sign him. Didn't he go to Blackburn and hardly feature though?
Nope

Ok, good. It might have been another defensive midfielder I was thinking of.

Never going to get our money back on Zog even if we wanted to sell,
we would have to take a approx 5 mill loss on him in my view, and even then find someone who actually wants to take him

Herd went off in the first half vs Peterborough.

Also I noticed with Ireland at full time he trudged off, he didn't seem to want to shake anyones hand nor did he clap or approach any of the villa fans

Its entirely possible that he was pissed off with his/the team,s performance that he just wanted to get off the pitch. It happens.

It's possible, just an observation

Jordan rhodes would be an interesting gamble- maybe worthwhile though, he seems a natural finisher but then again so did guy whittingham!

I heard on Talkshite that they've slapped a £6m price tag on his head, and apparently Blackburn have offered a deal worth £6m this weekend...

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/blackburn-set-to-make-final-6m-1220048

It would be a gamble and I would have said lets see how he gets on in the Championship first, but if it means getting a young potentially prolific English goalscorer at a decent price then now is probably the best time to take that gamble.
