I seem to have this trust in Lambert already. We know his approach will be different from our previous managers. Obviously it has to be, with our different budgets etc.... but scouring Europe and the lower league is more 'futureproof' for Aston Villa compared to 29 year olds on massive deals.

I saw Clyne get ripped apart by Blooose last year, not sure he's that good, or Naughton tbh.

That Czech lad Selaisse is the kind of player we should be going for.

He's very Haile rated.

Some disquieting burbles on Twitter tonight about one Joseph Barton coming to Villa, but absolutely nothing to substantiate this, of course!  Fits the first three criteria of the thread, at least.
Given that rumour, maybe we should add "I Flippin' hope not" to thread title, Louzie?

Signing Barton could be a great move but only after he's undergone an old-time medical procedure

Hasn't he had one already?

Nigel - tried to add as suggested...!

Maybe four of five years ago there may have been a reasonable debate about the fors and againsts of signing Joey Barton. But since then he has got older and less effective as a player whilst still causing problems on and off the pitch. Unless some PL side is desperate enough to take a punt on him in January to try to help them avoid relegation the only place he is going from QPR is down the leagues.

Or maybe that new club up in Scotland called 'The Rangers'.

Barton is one of the last players the club will go after. I can't think of a less likely target.

Lambert isn't going to tarnish his positive start with the fans by signing someone like that. Lambert knows at Villa you can't afford to lose the fans.

'we're going to sign joey barton' is the football supporters equivalent of a health scare. Wonder fans of other clubs get this as often as we do?

He's suspended for the first half of the season. I don't see the point in it myself.

I reckon so.

It's a bit like Alan Curbishley being available for employment, and having a PL managerial post to fill.

in childhood terms, talk of Curbishley, Bruce, McCarthy, Strachan to a football fan are akin to stories your folks would tell you to get you to be good.

As a fan, if Faulkner came and said you know if you don't be good to your sister I'll unleash the wrath of McLeish on to you...oh hold on a minute....

Unfortunately, he's signed for Bremen.

If the Barton "rumour" was true the gobshite would have been spouting his uneducated self-promoting mouth off all over Twitter by now. Didnt this idiot even claim that he should have been in the England squad for Euro 2012? He's a shite player as well as a complete and utter prick. It would be a shameful day if he ever put on a Villa shirt.
