Brett Holman for free, el Ahmadi for ~2.5mil, Whittingham for a fair chunk, Clyne for a few mil, and Scott Sinclair on the cheap.. this could turn out to be one of our best summers. Not only good transfers, but wise business.

Big things, boys.

I dont know much about Clyne TBH but if those are our purchases then i would be happy with that to compliment some decent players we already have.

Would like to see another striker as well but maybe that is me being greedy

There was a rumour that Randy was going to invest in a marquee signing?

Maybe the strategy is to fill the squad holes as economically as possible, which leaves then majority of the transfer funds for that marguee signing?

Say we've got £25m to spend:-
Holman Free
Ahmadi £2.5m
Naughton £4m (after negotiations with Spurs)
Poulsen free (he is on a Bosman, isn't he?)
New CB - £6m (Scandanavian bargain!)

That a pretty well reinforced squad and leaves £12.5m for the icing on the cake.  Perhaps Johnson, who we were linked to earlier in the summer?

Plus, given the couple of departures expected, there should also be an extra £5m(ish) in incoming fees to either offset the £25m spend or further reinforce the squad.

But where would you put a marquee?  In the Villa Village car park?

Da Wiki still has that unsourced comment that Cardiff have accepted a bid from Villa for Whitts.

If it was complete bollocks, I'd have thought that someone would have removed the comment by now

Barton is one of the last players the club will go after. I can't think of a less likely target.
Danny Tiatto?

Neil Shipperley.

kevin muscat

Frank Sinclair.

Tony Coton, Russell Osman, Robbie Savage, Steve Hodge, Mark Falco and Trevor Francis' son.

Heskey linked to Hull again and Cuellar to Blunderland in the papers today. Lazy journos writing the obvious perhaps, but I don't understand why somebody hasn't snapped up Guzan by now, not even any links!

I know he's probably out of league both in terms of transfer cost and wages, as well as not being the profile of player Lambert would go for, but has anyone seen anything on Dempsey?

From what I recall toward the back end of last season, Arsenal and Spurs were both interested and Fulham were ready to sell 'cos he's only got a year left. Seems to have gone quiet and Spurs are about to sign Sigurdsson.

Tough life of a 'keeper, innit? Has decent potential, but nothing amazing. No one is going to want him as a first choice and why would he move from Birmingham to be a #2 somewhere else?

He's going to have to go to the bottom half of the Championship to be a number 1, I assume. He might as well stay here, get paid more, battle for his place and maybe have a couple of 3 month loan moves instead of doing that.

I would have thought he would be looking to go back to the US and play in the MLS if interest is limited here.

I'll support him if he comes back obviously, but I really hope we're looking at better than Whittingham. He's a decent player, but that's about it.

I have heard or read from more than one source that Ipswich and Hull are both interested in Guzan.

I wouldn't actually mind Whitts back. I think he's come of age. I do wonder just why no one's taken him away from Cardiff sooner.
My worry for him is that he's still probably quite light weight for this league. But it would be shame to not give him a punt because he's got such a great left peg. I know people might say about Bannan but for me, Whitts is a better footballer, more consistent, more proven and has a better attitude. He's got a really good touch and can pick a pass. He can also score goals too. To me he'll improve the balance of our midfield. He's flexible and he could replace what we've been missing since Barry left. He's not as good as Barry but he'd offer something nearing that ability. Confidence seemed a problem for Peter when here, though he rarely let us down to be fair. But I think he's matured well and seems to have confidence in his ability.

I would like us to get better but Lamberts forte is getting the right players who'll fit the club. Whittingham would suit us well and suit how Lambo wants to play. I don't foresee him setting the world alight but he'd be a solid 7/10 most games and doesn't waste the ball much.
If we sign one standout player this summer that'll be great, but alongside said star, some more decent additions like Whitts, Al Ahmadi etc would be good.
