He isn't worth six million. Hasn't he only played 1 senior game for Spurs?

Surely the headline is part of the spin? Unless Lerner/Faulkner have actually told the Mirror we can't afford him.

'can't afford' is a loaded term. I could 'afford' to pay £1.09 for a packet of crisps from Cherwell Valley Services but I'm not bloody going to

Exactly. I would think it is more a case of "Won't pay" rather than "Can't afford". There is a big difference.

Some disquieting burbles on Twitter tonight about one Joseph Barton coming to Villa, but absolutely nothing to substantiate this, of course!  Fits the first three criteria of the thread, at least.
Given that rumour, maybe we should add "I Flippin' hope not" to thread title, Louzie?

I'd say £4m for Naughton is a fair price.  I also wouldn't object to a deal of £4m + add ons.

Signing Barton could be a great move but only after he's undergone an old-time medical procedure

£4m is fair. If he is half as good as Walker then we'll have a good player on our hands. I think he'll sign. He has no chance of dislodging Walker from the Spurs team.

I wouldn't want us to sign Barton. He's an utter cock. Fuck him off.

I sense that you don't rate him.

Rating him as a footballer is not the issue.  Thinking he's a fucking animal that should be in jail is.

You shouldn't put animals in jail. They're no good at sewing mailbags

Quite.  We've got somebody moaning in the Al-Wossisname thread that he can't be very good because he's only costing £2m, then simulataneously we "can't afford" £6m for a Spurs reserve.  Maybe we've just grown tired of paying over the odds for average British players.
