Has nobody thought that maybe Newcastle have just been very lucky with their signings? How many teams, even the top teams, can claim to have a success rate like they've had of late with the signings they've made? None.

Exactly the point I made previously when talking about Newcastle.  The true test of their method is what happens when the players move on - will they still be able to recruit that calibre for similar fees in 2-3 years time?

Only then can you say they've hit upon a successful transfer philosophy.

I have heard, in fact only this morning, talking to someone that still scouts for the club, that McLeish is on a tightrope, and in noway is he being guaranteed next season.

That makes very little sense when you consider that he's already been allowed to recruit one player for next season.  If you aren't sure you'll be keeping your manager, then you wait until you know before giving him money to spend.

This is a club that paid big money and wages to Stephen Ireland when we didn't have a manager, don't forget..

that particular point got 'the general' and other like minded deluded souls on here very agitated at the time. The deal was 'signed and sealed' under MON apparently despite Milner playing for the club after MON had left.

the club is fucked until we get new people who actually have a clue what their doing on the board. McLeish will almost certainly get the boot in the summer but I'm very worried as to who will follow the last 2 disastrous appointments. Bob Bradley or Alan Curbishley perhaps.

Maybe, but targeting french players was a deliberate and stated tactic.  They even explained that with the flights from Newcastle to Paris (presumably) that they were able to attract better players.  As always there is a degree of fluke with all signings but they stated their intention and then scouted the arse out of the place.  This appears better to me that the scatter gun approach that most clubs take.

In our defence we could in the future repeat this with Numan being in Holland and presumably Belgium.

I don't think it is an exclusively target french players model, and think with Dutch, Belgian or German players it can be replicated, but the template is buy technically talented, young ish players on the up not down, with good temperament. There is no doubt Newcastle have done very well, but much of it is due to Pardew clearly trusting Carr, and thus getting the players he has recomended. No doubt, they could make 60 million plus this summer on 4 or 5 sales.

What about sigurdsson, he's only on loan at Swansea.
Stuart Holden is also a really good player.

A loan for frinpong would be a decent shout if we don't manage to sign anyone permanent.

I like Kightly too, much more than Jarvis.

Other than that I hope we look abroad. Just don't really know who!

Sigurdson is bang on what we need, a midfield player that can pass and score goals.

I think with the right manager Ireland, Bannan or Gardner could do that.

Watching NEC vs Heerenveen and Bas Dost just scored with a really sweet finish. First time shot from just inside the area, great feet for a big man. He's like Peter Crouch mixed with Klaas Jan Huntelaar. Sign him up!

...and he just scored another, Lineker-esque sliding into the six yard area, tightly marked getting onto a low driving cross. He really does look good!

Have we been quite strongly linked with him?

He mentioned us by name in an interview in the Dutch press as an interested party for his signature this summer. Oh and he's just completed his hattrick with another great poachers finish. Two great assists from Narsingh too. I know there will be some who will shoot me down, but this lad does look mustard, albeit in Holland. He does everything Bent does plus more...just saying. Oh and he looks as good as Huntelaar or RVP did when they played in Holland, not flash in the pan good like Alves did before going to the smoggies. Only 22 as well.

Here's a link to the Sun article that takes the quotes from the Dutch press.

Really hope there's some truth to it... whoever the manager is next season!

A hefty pay rise and a couple of years at the Premier League's top nursery club.
