Ive always rated Kightly and he's free next season too but question marks over his fitness as you say.
We basically have I'd say two years before the outstanding wingers we do have coming through are ready.
Holman will fill a gap until then hopefully. I still think Albrighton will come good but I'm not sure if N'Zogbia will be here next season if McLeish is. So we need another one at least.

Hoilett will cost several million I would imagine, and yes, we should go for him too.

His contract is up in the summer so any deal will go to a tribunal. I just can’t see us getting him ahead of some of the bigger teams.

That’s fair enough, but we should definitely try.

I don't like Gabby playing wide, so to me we only have two first team wingers in N'Zogbia and Albrighton, so we need at least one and two if Charlie goes.  If Holman is played wide then fair enough, but I understand he's more of a central player.

I thought Hollman was was of the attacking outside players in a 433 or 4231.

I think he does play there at times, but was described at a '2nd striker' in one of the articles I saw when he signed.

This is rumour so in saying this is precisely the thread for this.

I have heard, in fact only this morning, talking to someone that still scouts for the club, that McLeish is on a tightrope, and in noway is he being guaranteed next season.

I have also heard that Mancini is already half way through the exit door and he has already been told this which is why he is making these very resigned to fate statements, like "its over" and "we are finished" and Man Utd (rivals) are a team with great spirit which we don't have.

I hope the Mcleish bit is half true, in that I hope he's fallen off the tightrope.

That makes very little sense when you consider that he's already been allowed to recruit one player for next season.  If you aren't sure you'll be keeping your manager, then you wait until you know before giving him money to spend.

True, although you could say that he hasn't actually spent any money beyond allocating wages, as Holman is a Bosman.

We'd still have to get people n this summer, regardless of the manager, and you need to move quick to get hold of decent Bosmans.

I do still think, though, that he is going to be here, no matter what.

This is Villa we’re talking about.  If nothing else, Randy has a history of wasting money, especially the past few years.  This is the first time that his prolificacy can be seen as a positive, providing hope that he could waste more by getting rid of McLeish.

I actually think the low attendance v Stoke will have shaken them.  Another low crowd before the end of the season, say sub 30,000, then surely they’ll take notice.

Well what I can say is this, mate of mine, player from the past (Eighties), Scottish lad, still scouts for the club and still has many contacts right to the top at Villa, that said he tells me nothing whatsoever, I commented about McLeish, he commented that he didn't rate him as a players, less as a manager and that people shouldn't think every thing in the garden is rosy, he's walking a tight rope. That is all I know from that.

Well, wages do seem to be our hot topic right now!

That having been said, this is the board that signed Ireland without a manager even in place!

A player coming in no way makes him certain to stay in the job , especially one coming in on a Bosman to a thread bear squad.

I think should we stay up Randy may look at the injuries and loss of Petrov and cut him some slack but the performances have been poor also it cost them a ton but he was pretty ruthless with Houiller.Surely if that was just Health issues the contract pay out must have been covered by some kind of insurance ?

If Mcleish is on £2m a year, then surely the cost to get rid is paying up his contract, so £4m for the two years left.  So, based on an average ticket price of £25, sacking him would need to put an extra 4,210 on the average attendence to make financial sense.  When you also consider the likelihood of a higher league placing, which of course is hard to quantify, then that figure drops significantly at around £1m a place in the PL.

I wonder if these are the sums Randy & Co are doing?

Hoillet is a very good player, but not sure he would be interested in us.I really rate Jarvis.Quick, good acceleration, good pass.good cross, more importantly he picks players out.Would, for me be a very good signing.

Is'nt Kightley on a free in the summer?

Phillips is a bit of a gamble for me, and with Johnson, Carruthers etc coming through maybe not the kind of player we should be making.
