Anyone else had the same phone call as i did last night from the Villa...wanting to know if I am going to renew my season ticket next season? ......maybe they are getting a bit worried!!!!

Nope but I will be telling them I wont be renewing for a number of reasons and one being the fact Mcleish is in charge and I feel Randy Lerner is now taking us backwards and i'd rather hold onto my hard earned cash.

I had mine the week before last. Assuming it was the same call.

I got some stuff about do I know about the benefits of having a ST, had I used the 10 percent off in the shops, had i used the vouchers etc etc - basically aimed at making renewal more attractive, before getting on to the nitty gritty of how likely i was to renew.

When i started saying I was unlikely to renew, the woman on the end started filling in the gaps for me - "is it the manager?" - which i told her was a bit of a simplification, but i got the impression they were getting the same answer.

My answer was that money is going to be a lot tighter for us, and although it won't be a "can't afford it, full stop" situation for me, to renew I'll have to make sacrifices elsewhere, and a mix of the club not showing any ambition / the football being frequently defensive guff / there being so many match to match deals on tickets these days means that I'm very unlikely to make the sacrifice.

To give them their due, the woman was quite clearly listening, rather than just reading from a script, and went to pains to say they are passing on all the feedback they get.

Whilst this quite obviously isn't a "OMG, let's see if the fans want him sacked!!!!!" call, in case anyone thinks it is, I think it is good that the club are realising they may have problems and are doing their bit to listen to supporters.

Great that they're listening but if the chairman isn't, it's pretty much a pointless exercise

Not had the call myself yet, but seems like a positive thing to me.

I don't think I will renew next year, but that's due to personal circumstances and not a McLeish thing.  Last time I did that I ended up getting a half season ticket, which I can see happening again.

Well, if he's been told and doesn't listen, I guess he's had the chance.

I'd hate to be the person charged with ramping up season ticket sales next year.

It's a bit late now. Again, I need to clarify, I have always given McLeish a chance until last Sunday and his Blues connections didn't bother me. However, it was an appointment that would always divide fans.

For flip sake, a month before he was appointed Villa Park was rocking in a way that it hadn't been all that season simply because HE had relegated Birmingham City! Villa Park was going wild with 'going up going down' at his and Blues expense then he shows up as our manager a few weeks later. Absolute MADNESS and it's a bit late to be asking questions about the manager now. They are what, 9 months too late?

I don't smoke (anything) * and I'd shared a bottle of cava with dcf celebrating a belated valentine's but that's all.  It must have been the fumes  from the perfume dcf had bought me.

*except haddock.

Feeling smug that I told them that one season earlier so am £500+ up. But, I would rather have been proved wrong and I did plan to go to every 3pm Saturday home game. Doing that for Newcastle and Swansea put me right off.

Comment from a Browns fan in the Fiver:-

"As a Cleveland Browns fan, I read Aston Villa's statement about Alex McLeish's visit (yesterday's Quote of the Day) and found the part about him learning from coach Pat Shurmur quite hilarious. Shurmur, reportedly, is an expert at offensive play calling, but you wouldn't have guessed that watching the Browns this year. In his first year as the Browns' head coach, the team finished with a 4-12 record, including a 1-9 run in their last 10 games. They were third worst for points scored and fourth worst for offensive yards per game. One win was a 6-3 thrashing of the Seattle Seahawks, and remains the worst American football game I've ever witnessed. One loss was because Shurmur didn't know a player had been knacked and his backup was playing out of position. Naturally, the next play was a hand-off to the backup, who promptly fumbled and lost the game. An expert coach, eh? Something tells me Birmingham fans will be happier to hear about McLeish's visit to Cleveland than the Villans" - John Niehaus.

I expect to see a fully padded and helmeted-up Heskey patrolling our defence in the next match.

Regardless of what's going on around us this a reasonable trip to make. You can learn from others and these days sport is approached  in a very precise way and it's good to share best practice  on fitness, rehab, and training methods.

Do we know if first teamers are bonding somewhere?  I heard they were not due back in for training until Monday 20th.

God  "Best Practice" do you work in PR/Human Resource. Still  at least  "workshop" doesnt appear in your post

But Ive just noticed "bonding does!!!  Way to go guy.
