I love the way some of our local rival fans devise new ways to try and justify their lower attendances. A couple of months ago a baggies fan called in and said that if Villa were well supported they'd be getting crowds like Man Utd or Man City because Manchester is also a big city with two major clubs, similar to Birmingham. Tonight, another baggies fan stated that West Bromwich is a small town of 100,000 and they regularly get 25,000 attendances so a crowd that is quarter of the town's population is a far better percentage than what Villa ever achieve. He sounded pretty smug as he delivered these well researched facts. Ingenious.

There was even a Wolves fan at it earlier in the week, saying that they had the biggest away following because they took 9,000 to Anfield in the FA Cup.  Franks of course "put it out there" until Regan pointed out that Villa's average away attendance was over double that of the Wolves.  They seem obsessed on that station about who is the biggest club in the area.

It's the radio equivalent of clickbait. Say something controversial that everyone can join in with and watch the calls come in.

This is the 'business model' around which Talksport is built

Exactly, Talksport normally have two presenters on in a good cop bad cop style to get enraged listeners phoning in.

Haven't listened for ages but thought I'd see what they were about 'Arry last night...they still have the same handful of callers and even resorted to guess the age of a caller after making out Ken the Bluenose to be some kind of minor celebrity and voice of reason in the world of Midlands football. Then you have batshit crazy Polly who is literally gasping to suck off Martin O'Connor insisting we are all running scared now because two of her Villa supporting relatives didn't want them to appoint 'Arry...oh yeah, Blose aren't as bad a team as their narrow escape form relegation suggests, Call Me Franksy then states that the last 3 months of the season are irrelevant as they used to be in 6th position under Rowett. Unbelievable.

Its what's happened to the local media up and down the country. 24 hour coverage from behemoths such as Sky means that local areas and clubs got in depth coverage more often and more exposure. Add to that the digital age where most clubs update via twitter, facebook etc and the printed press and the wireless need to come up with something to attract the advertising. Villa are the biggest club in the area and it seems that both the mail and WM have decided that attacking us is their best way forward. They could be right. praising us - going after poor owners - will alienate the others and Villa fans will tire of what will just be a Villa news outlet. no different to what else is out there. They lose the clickbait and the advertising.

Now criticise us - even use poor 6th form journalistic approaches - and you have a lot of supporters loving it, villa fans riled and talk shows that would normally only have life for one maybe two nights can go on all week. Its all they have left - have a go at the only real story in town - us. realistically - 'Rondon  - he's off to Arsenal isn't he'?, 'Redknapp - he's off if he can't get them to Europe in 2 years' is likely to interest no-one. Its not realistic. Now change Rondon to Kodjia. Redknapp to Xia and there's a story. True or not is irrelevant. We've all they've got. It's a compliment and is how I take it. not that i pay any attention to them though.

God this wolves fan on now getting his knickers in a twist.  Commenting on how we've only won 12 honours and they were mostly in the 1890s.

That'll be Wolves who last won a major trophy in 1980?

Like the rags, the easy reply to this pitiful dig is enquire how many trophies they won in the same period.

At least Franksy was laughing at him......maybe it was his reference to our winning trophies in 1860.

Richard Sneekes barely trying to disguise his dislike of Villa waxing lyrical about just how shit Villa were against Brighton. He sounded so happy.

I like the stat that the Wolves fan come out with about Villa finishing in the top 6 well over 40 times compared to Small Heath's paltry 1. Call Me Franksy didn't like it though.

They really big him up as an ex Ajax player. He was an OK player in a poor Olbiyun team. Just because he played for Ajax it doesn't make him a world beater in the same way that not all Brazilian players are as good as Pele.

His kids used to go to the same junior school as I did, used to see him at the school gates all the time picking them up. Did a cracking job at Sutton Coldfield Town this year.

On that note have you seen Melissa Sneekes recently?

Tuned in the other day and the very first call I heard was from an Albion fan who didn't mention his own team or the upcoming season once, but called up to talk about an Arsenal player scoring 7 goals against us in the 1930's.  Oh how I've missed it over the summer.
