Has any 'cross the city divide' move ever worked out?

With the exception of Ridgewell for them (and us).  He was their version of Cambiasso.

I always thought Geoff Vowden did alright for us, even though he was never a fans' favourite.  Not where I stood anyway.

Vowden did alright for us...he was a solid professional...but he'd been a bit of a Noses' legend for some time hadn't he? That lot over there cast him out and we took him in...never a good situation!

When I was a kid I always thought that Colin Withers was a good goalkeeper but looking back he was associated with another dismal time in our history.

Loads of people have one way or another. The point is doing it and then saying 'You don't do it' when referring to someone else.

I wouldn't slam it as the height of hypocrisy, but I think it's fair enough to point out its a daft thing for him to say.

I agree - throughout history the two clubs have traded players. There's a long line from Charlie Athersmith onwards.
Genuine question Dave, and with my anorak firmly on. Was Dennis Hodgetts the first player to join Small Heath from Villa?

I think so, but I leave that to those who know a lot more than I do.

Take the job by all means, dance on the pitch when they score? No.

Wasn't that the game they came back from 2-0 down and scored in the last minute? Maybe he got carried away but after the career he had with us, i'm not going to hold it against him.
No
It was when blues equalised to make it one one in the match when Cahill scored that brilliant goal to make it 3-1
I'm not holding it against him either , just thought what he was saying was a bit hypocritical
I think he is a van driver now , maybe the new manager could get him back as our new goalkeeping coach

It depends what you mean by 'cross the city divide'. Mcleish walked out on Blues to manage Villa. Spink played for another 3 clubs before he even became a coach under Steve Bruce.

Dennis Mortimer and Des Bremner did it, as did another manager.
Yes i will never forget the time i was working in a factory in Bordsley Green around 86/7 , at lunchtime i walked to the chip shop , In the chip shop was Dennis Mortimer and Des Bremner , sitting at the solitary table in their blues tracksuits , eating chips after just finishing training on the grass park at the bottom of garrison lane , I just shook my head and walked out ,

To be fair to Nigel Spink when asked why he went to the Blues he said "The Villa have never offered me a job". That is all it was to him, a job. Family to support means he needed a job

Remember Blues had a big striker in the late '70's. Peter somebody... Peter Wothe? Wathe? summat like that anyway.  He did OK when he came to us! :)
