Get ready for tomorrow nights in depth Garde inquest.

"Cmon Vila fans, tell us now Garde has gone how many of this Villa team would get into a nightclub in Dubai next season?"

yeah had to laugh last night , howard hodgson was going on about the players behaving like prima donnas and they shouldnt be tweeting about fancy cars or making it public they are on holiday in Dubai , well i follow the prat on twitter and thats exactly what he does all the time
Then there was Nigel Spink going on about when Mcleish was Villa manager , He was saying you dont do that , you dont cross the city divide , its just not the done thing , well you done it Nigel ,  i havent forgotten when he danced on our pitch in his Blues tracksuit  with steve bruce when Blues took the lead at Villa park.

First of all, I'm no fan of Howard Hodgson's massive ego but there's a difference between him tweeting he's on holiday and Gabby doing it. Hodgson does not play for us on a Saturday afternoon. Mind you, you could argue neither does Gabby.

As for Spink, he had to earn a living once he quit playing football. He's not going to turn down a goalkeeping coach job if he's offered one wherever it is.

Take the job by all means, dance on the pitch when they score? No.

Wasn't that the game they came back from 2-0 down and scored in the last minute? Maybe he got carried away but after the career he had with us, i'm not going to hold it against him.

The point conman was making is that you can't come out and say 'you can't cross the City divide' when that is what he has done himself. He can criticise him for a lot of things but he's not in the position to slag him off for doing exactly what he did.

It depends what you mean by 'cross the city divide'. Mcleish walked out on Blues to manage Villa. Spink played for another 3 clubs before he even became a coach under Steve Bruce.

Dennis Mortimer and Des Bremner did it, as did another manager.

Loads of people have one way or another. The point is doing it and then saying 'You don't do it' when referring to someone else.

I wouldn't slam it as the height of hypocrisy, but I think it's fair enough to point out its a daft thing for him to say.

I agree - throughout history the two clubs have traded players. There's a long line from Charlie Athersmith onwards.

Has any 'cross the city divide' move ever worked out?

With the exception of Ridgewell for them (and us).  He was their version of Cambiasso.

You can also add Herbert to that list.

Bremner, Mortimer for a season, Geddis did okay for them, Hopkins and Blake. Going back Ron Wylie and Bobby Thomson.

When i first started following Villa around 63-64 season ,two of Small Heath's best players at the time had crossed the city from Villa .Stan Lynn and Ron Wylie.
