Felt he was their best player yesterday even out of position at LB Certainly he performed better than Rodgers £15mil midfielder.

I honestly reckon that if Downing tried to find an opposition player with his cross he'd be a world class winger. He managed a staggering 13 crosses on Saturday. Only two found a red shirt. All the bullshit about how he used to supply the goals for Bent last season was just that, bullshit.

One of my mates is a Liverpool fan, and I told him at the start of this season that I thought Downing would come good for them. He strikes me very much as a confidence player, and his first half season for us, after his injury, he was utterly gash. Once he'd got his fitness back, and built his confidence, he started doing it for us.

You can call him a fanny who bottles tackles, but, he's a winger, and since when did wingers need to be putting in crunching tackles? Don't get me wrong, he's a weasel faced cock socket, who i find thoroughly reprehensible, but he was exceptional for us in his last season.

At Liverpool, he's had a disastrous first season, and found himself with a manager who clearly doesn't want him (as has Darren Bent), s he's not going to get the chance to prove himself.

There's obviously not going to be any way back for him here. For a start, he probably doesn't want to, but then we also have a manager who clearly doesn't believe in wingers. I suspect he'll go somewhere were there is less expectation on him and he'll do quite well. If someone can pay the right sort of money for him (NB, Martin, that's not 15m), then I think they'll get a good deal from him.

He's got ability but he's a coward, not just for shitting out of tackles but the way he so often seems to take the safe option when in position to do more.

He's had his best season in the Premiership in his last season at B6. Built his transfer fee up, (thanks a lot), and off he trotted to European Football, or so he thought. Saturday took Villa above MON and Pardew and if we carry on  with good form , we could be above the Red Scouse as well.  ;D

The ball's rolling at VP, just need to steer clear of too many injuries.

I am reminded of that Liverpool scarf pic with Carroll and that ugly barmaid.
How that dream has died spectacularly.

I think there's a decent player in there somewhere, he could still do a job at VP, probably not in the current system.

I'd put a majority of that down to our defending especially Baker who was very strong aerially.

Rudy's bang on, he can't pick a player out. When he played for us his final ball was poor, as was Ashleys to be fair.Lplop fail because if you sit deep against them, they have no alternative plan.Good, can't stand them.

Downing is about as far away from the type of player Lambert is looking for as its possible to get.

Bit like the Villa at home?
The challenge for us will be to get our home tactics right: we've done okay so far, but both the Arse and Stokies should have been despatched - we have to find a way of breaking down teams who sit back.
