For all those concerned about Lambert leaving us in the future I suggest this:

Lambert left Colchester to take over Norwich in League 1.  The Colchester fans warned them that he would be off as soon as a bigger club came knocking.  He guided Norwich from League 1 to the Prem in 2 years and then kept them there with change to spare in year 3.  A bigger club came knocking and he left.  If Lambert has the same effect on the Villa and ends up with bigger job than ours in 3 years time then I will be ecstatic.  He didn't go from Colchester to Norwich to Villa overnight, he did it by proving himself.  I am sure the Norwich fans are much happier now than they were before he arrived at Carrow Road.  If Lambert performs so well at the Villa that he is courted by the top clubs then I for one will be delighted that we signed him because we would have to be in a much better place than were now for him to get that recognition.  Welcome to Villa Park Mr. Lambert!  ;)
It wasn't difficult for him to get bigger clubs than Norwich and Colchester, getting a bigger club than Villa will be difficult...

Yeah realistically to most of England there are maybe 7 teams that would be considered bigger jobs than us at the moment.

Aston Villa are hopeful of announcing Paul Lambert as their new manager within the next 24 hours, Press Association Sport understands.

Villa remain confident of securing Lambert as Alex McLeish's successor even though Norwich refused to accept his resignation on Thursday.

The midlands club are ready to pay the compensation demands of the Canaries for Lambert, who has a rolling contract at Carrow Road.

The Scot held talks on Thursday with Villa, who are optimistic any loose ends can be tied up sooner rather than later.

Lambert will then be charged by club owner Randy Lerner with the task of revitalising Villa after two seasons in the doldrums.

After three successive top-six finishes under Martin O'Neill, Villa have dropped too close to the Barclays Premier League bottom three for comfort.

It is believed Lambert will be given money to spend after McLeish spent last season reducing what he described as an "astronomical" wage bill.

Lambert will also be able to use the money from any players he generates from current Villa players he off-loads to bolster the squad.

My point is that if we are to be a stepping stone to greater things for ANYONE, manager or player, then it means that we must have had some success brought to us by said person.  Ergo, if Lambert does sign for us and does so well that even bigger clubs than ours come knocking then it will mean we will have had a modicum of success.  Something we all crave.

Lets get it tied up asap. I hope there is money to spend because it seems we have no problem getting people interested in the job but as soon as they find out a few more details they run a mile or at least appear less enthusiastic.. another "oh i've changed my mind" response is not acceptable

He undersells himself but you get the point. “I want winners, I don’t want players whose careers are dominated by money,” he added.

“That will come later as a result of success. Like here, we won League One and then the Championship and now those players reap the reward.

“I like hungry players
. That’s what I’ve got. They never ask for anything and they never throw in the towel.

This more than anything is why i like this guy - no nonsense.
I always felt last season that our players were better than the results / league position portrayed - i really think he more than any of the other contenders will get the best out of them

Really excited - just hope they get it signed soon ITSOTP

If Lambert gets it right at Villa, there won't be many bigger clubs for him to go to. In our slump years, we often forget just how big Aston Villa are. If he does move on in around three years, it will mean that we've had some good times. I am very optimistic about this appointment.

It's comments like these, about wanting hungry players, that fill me with hope - some of the coasters we have at the club are going to have a rude awakening, I think (I really hope so).

Let them bang on all they like. We've landed a manager with real potential, that's all that matters. I actually think we're making a better appointment than Liverpool.

I don't understand why people listen to Talksport, it's ill informed nonsense. They try and air the most contraversial opinions to rile people up and get them to call in.

You're right about Talksport Paul, but I listen to it mainly because they talk about football and I enjoy the opinions of the numpties who phone in.

I find it somewhat ironic however that many people thought MON was going to move on from Villa to take  the Man U job........ He is now at Sunderland.......
