If lambert leaves in 3 years for another club we can probably assume we will be in much better position than he took over in- i think he will stay a few years and there are only maybe  5 bigger jobs in england.

I don't understand the purpose of naming players who were discarded by bigger clubs as if that were some sort of triumph? When we've got players from Manu or Liverpool its because their manager didn't want them any more. I think Milner is the biggest signing I can recall in terms of us asserting ourselves to get a player that another big club wanted to keep hold of.

To be fair I think Ipswich have more of a problem with us than the other way round. As much stick as we give Alan Brazil, I'm not sure any of us actually have nightmares about him. I bet he still has the odd nightmare about us. Anyway, if they were so great why didn't they win it the next year while we were too busy winning the European Cup?

Totally agree, as for Talksport I've never listened to it,  gets too much of a slagging on here for me to bother with it.

I think the Norwich fans know what a good manager we potentially have and must be very worried that this season will now be much tougher for them than the last...

Neil Lennon and Chris Hughton odds on though right now. Might not all be bad..

For all those concerned about Lambert leaving us in the future I suggest this:

Lambert left Colchester to take over Norwich in League 1.  The Colchester fans warned them that he would be off as soon as a bigger club came knocking.  He guided Norwich from League 1 to the Prem in 2 years and then kept them there with change to spare in year 3.  A bigger club came knocking and he left.  If Lambert has the same effect on the Villa and ends up with bigger job than ours in 3 years time then I will be ecstatic.  He didn't go from Colchester to Norwich to Villa overnight, he did it by proving himself.  I am sure the Norwich fans are much happier now than they were before he arrived at Carrow Road.  If Lambert performs so well at the Villa that he is courted by the top clubs then I for one will be delighted that we signed him because we would have to be in a much better place than were now for him to get that recognition.  Welcome to Villa Park Mr. Lambert!  ;)

Life would be a lot easier if everyone accepted their place in the football food chain, what you do to the club below you, will eventually be done to yourself, be it players or managers.

The positive element is the time you get with either a decent player or manager and how it helps your club progress. Moving up the chain was somewhat easier in years gone by, not so much now but it can still be done. Usually with the help of a kindly, oil rich chap with shit loads of money.

Lambert wasn't my first choice, but once he signs that contract then he is manager of our club and he'll get my support.
One thing all of us are going to need is patience (from the owner down to the youngest fan). A big club is like a big oil tanker, it takes time to turn it round and after the last two years it's going to take a heck of a lot of hard work to turn round the good ship Aston Villa. Unless of course Randy is willing to give Lambert a wedge to spend of Citeh proportions, and we all know that ain't going to happen.
I should think that the same financial constraints will be in place for Lambert as they were for TSM so don't expect to see any expensive signings rocking up at Villa Park in the near future.
If he signs a three year deal (and stays that long) then all we can hope for is steady progress back to regular top six finishes and decent cup runs and maybe even win one of the bloody things.

Maybe we could've chained Ashley Young to a radiator, that would've stopped him leaving.

Managers, or players for that matter, aren't so blinkered that they look at last seasons league table to make a decision on whether to jump ship.

It's all about potential, and ours is better, despite what Norwich fans say.

According to Timothy Abraham, its hopefull that Lambert to be signed up on a three year contract by the end of the day.

It wasn't difficult for him to get bigger clubs than Norwich and Colchester, getting a bigger club than Villa will be difficult...
