This is what always happens. Mid-ranking clubs can take managers from smaller clubs and it's fine. They then leave to go to bigger clubs and it's the worst thing ever.

I still prefer them to Ipswich "it's not fair we would've won it if they hadn't got more points than us" Town though.

And another thing, in all that Villa slagging, they might want to stop and think about the fact that their manager wants to be our manager so much, he actually resigned.

The day the Aston Villa manager does that to join Norwich is the day they earn the right to so much as cock a haughty glance at us.

These people need to learn some respect.

Like Sunderland. They're bigger than us, yet we clicked our fingers and their top player came running.

I see a new thread.  Clubs That Are Bigger Than Us who (whom?) we got players off.

I'll start.  Roberto Pires.

We got loads of players from higher division clubs when we were in the Third Division, didn't we?

Anyway, one could make a case for... Carlos Cuellar, Stilyan Petrov, Fabian Delph, James Milner, Nigel Reo-Coker, Darren Bent, Andy Townsend, off the top of my head. All from clubs that have at one stage or other thought that they were bigger than us (in fairness, Celtic probably are).

I thought we were on about when we'd snatched players from clubs with ideas above their station, not when we'd bought in players who were considered to be on the way down from genuinely bigger clubs?

Either way - Clubs That Are Bigger Than Us that we got players off.

Paul McGrath (although, in terms of trophies won, they were smaller than us at the time).

In fairness, the Norwich fans are reacting no differently to a lot of ours did when Gareth Barry chose to move to a club who'd finished below us in the league.
It's nothing to do with being bigger clubs, it's about professionals making decisions they believe will give them greater opportunities to realise their ambitions and, of course, earn more money.

To be fair I think Ipswich have more of a problem with us than the other way round. As much stick as we give Alan Brazil, I'm not sure any of us actually have nightmares about him. I bet he still has the odd nightmare about us. Anyway, if they were so great why didn't they win it the next year while we were too busy winning the European Cup?

Colchester batter Norwich 7-1 away and within the blink of an eye, Lambert becomes the Norwich boss. Norwich batter Villa 2-0 (could have been 7) on the last day of the season and before another Premier League ball is kicked, he becomes Villa's new manager (I'm assuming). Is there a pattern emerging here? I just hope we don't run up a cricket score against Man U next season.

We all know he will do the same to us as he did to Colchester or Norwich the day a really big job comes up. Let's just hope that by then he's done enough to warrant it.

Or you could see it this way: If he manages an improvement rate similar to Norwich with us, how long would it take before the Villa job is bigger than most? ;)

A man can dream, at least.
