I thought the general approach on here was that supporters who don't go to games weren't to be considered "not proper supporters", so it is probably best to stick to that.

hey, he decided to play the "i'm a much better Villa fan than  youuuuw" card and pick a fight. Bottom line is people make thier own choices and no-one has any right to question them.

It's all about opinions greg and I agree with toronto's opinion on how best to support a club. It's my opinion also that toronto is a much better fan than yowww.  But it's only my opinion.

see i never understand people who move as far away from their club as possible and then seem to want a medal for coming back a few times a year. Don't move to another continent - problem solved and shows a bit more commitment i think.

Is it already the anniversary? You wheel that old chestnut out once a year Greg, time flies. I've forgotten, do you bother going any longer?

i've done my time during the 80's and 90's when the football was for the most part meh so i reckon i've probably still got a few games on you. Fact is i have been down since my self-imposed exile, but i'm still not convinced things are going to be any different from the ellis years especially after the last week, and you may have appointed yourself Chief Cheerleader of the new Mcliesh era but i will continue to view things in a cynical manner as any fan with common sense would. All i will say about your geographical location is i would never move that far from a club and still support it. You end up like those embarrassing ex-pats who spend their whole time ordering marmite on the internet because they can't stand the "locals food"

you're knowledge of the world is really restricted to your mum's front room isn't it? Let's look at a few of the laughable things you've said above in isolation:

1) "Fact is i have been down since my self-imposed exile" - you make yourself self out to be some sort of political protester against an oppressive government. How exactly do you go down if you're under the circumstances of your own "exile". Surely if you have gone down even once then then exile has ended.

2) "Chief Cheerleader of the new Mcliesh era" - Tray and find even one post of mine that suggests I have supported the appointment let alone been a cheerleader for it. I won't deny saying that we need to get behind him and give him a chance. You really live in a fairy land of make belief don't you?

3) "i will continue to view things in a cynical manner as any fan with common sense would" - that maybe the funniest thing I have ever seen on here. Did you really say that about yourself?

4) "i would never move that far from a club and still support it." - Another piece of evidence to show clearly how you don't understand being a fan, and it clearly says a lot about your commitment that moving away would see you end that relationship with your club. If anything, it has made my interest in the club even stronger.

5) "You end up like those embarrassing ex-pats who spend their whole time ordering marmite on the internet because they can't stand the "locals food"" - I know a lot of ex-pats. They have all integrated themselves into living in Canada, and previously in the US when I used to live there. Is your definition of an ex-pat taken from watching TV sit-coms when they go abroad for a holiday or something? I love living here, but I've not forgotten my roots. I can say that with confidence about every ex-pat I've ever met. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about yet again.

fair enough. maybe there should be some scale based on how much you spend or have spent in the past or the distance traveled in airmiles and we can have an annual "biggest villa fan evoh" award

Know quite a few ex-pats actually and i disagree, but i'll leave it there as i've obviously touched a nerve and there seems little point in continuing this on a thread about the next assistance manager.

Well I've never really understood anyone who would put supporting a football club above family and work when deciding where to live.

Well I've never really understood anyone who'd put deciding where to live above living near their friends and family and beloved Aston Villa; each to his own though.

Nah. Each to their own but I thought it was a bit pointless protesting about something that was going to happen come what may. TBH it's probably made Lerner dig his heels in even more because if it goes tits-up as expected he's going to look a right idiot.

I'd say that anyone turning down the chance to improve their lives by moving somewhere because "it's not near enough to Villa Park" wants to seriously consider their priorities.
