Just been to hand in my 4-month plan to renew my season ticket and felt good about doing it. I, like most, didn't have McLeish as the manager we wanted, but he's here, and the ecitement I felt when down Villa Park hading the form in makes me look forward positively.

I think McLeish will set us up how MON did and we'll get similar results. The question is, can he take it a little bit further and win something? I'm looking forward to the new season.

Stating the obvious - not every team is going to be able to gain access to the Champions League. Man City have joined the other clubs with greater resources than our owner - Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool (?) - so achieving a Europa League place wont be a "given" either. On the other hand, I believe that the doom mongers in the media talking of another relegation battle are letting the anoyance with the club not doing their business via the media taint their views - plus a lot are MON lovers who haven't forgiven RL for letting Greard have the money for Bent.

That argument is getting a bit tired now, though.

It's not just doom mongers in the media, it is also lots of our supporters who can see lean times ahead. Worrying, it is starting to look like the media were right all along.

If Downing leaves as rumoured, in the space of two weeks we'll have appointed a manager who specialises in relegation, been turned down by Wigan's manager, and sold our two best players within weeks of the end of the season, having sold our best player in each of the two previous summers.

You don't really need to have an agenda of some sort to see the above as the actions of a club going nowhere.

Why am I not surprised that you had this respone PBN....... You always seem to see the down side...of MON,,,,of the appointment of GH etc etc etc

Finally got round to renewing... Are we getting new season cards this year or reusing last seasons ones?

I only ask 'cos I didn't go to the Liverpool game and gave my card to my mate, need to know if I've gotta get it back off him.

Err, no, i thought GH was a good appointment at the time, and I was quite happy to praise the positives of O'Neill.

Where's the "up" side of recent events in terms of the image it portrays of the club?

Great, give us the positives of everything since O'Neill jumped ship.

Apart from Bent signing, we've lurched from one fuck up to another.

I haven't renewed my son's or mine.  Just had enough of premiership football in general, the expense, the long journey (each game is an away day for us) and simply the whole football experience. I decided before the end of last season that I would have a year off from watching Villa and then see how I felt.

This will be the first season since 1972 that I will not see a live Villa game. I have travelled up to all home games since 1979 (apart from spells living abroad) plus lots of away and foreign trips. Simply put supporting the Villa is/was a big part of my life. My 12 year old son has also been a season ticket holder for the last 5 years.

The AM appointment has softened the blow to not renew. I firmly believe mangers don't change styles just because they change clubs. The thought of watching 1 up front and 5 in midfield at home makes gardening and DIY sound quite appealing.

Always a Villa fan, but for this season at least ,it will be by watching the highlights on MOTD.

Dorset Villa

PS) Sorry Percy but you will be one sale down for each issue of H&V next season

According to most on here, O'Neill "jumping ship" was a positive.

It's great isn't it? The weeks leading up to the season I'm always optimistic. Even last year I was.

New shirt, new pitch, new players

I can't wait to see if Albrighton, Ireland, Gabby and Bent can all click.

The only thing that will click next season is your neck, as your head jolts upwards to see any one of our 10 outfield players launch the ball out of our box.
