I'm not renewing but I'd actually made that decision way before McLeish, due to the increasing disenfrachisement I feel from the Villa these days. Yeah, I know, it's not my club, it's Mr Lerner's, and he can do what he likes with it. Just don't expect me to fund his lunacy (in even a tiny way) anymore. I'm sure those of you who have renewed will enjoy your season, but I can't wait to start not going :)

Will certainly think twice before going to away games though

Already done it. Would have loved us to have appointed a truly inspirational, young, forward thinking gaffer but it doesn't really make much difference. I'm Aston born, AV are in my blood, have always been my team and I will continue to support them in the flesh for as long as I am able.

I can't wait to start not going :)

You cant say that, not in the same way as a person of the opposite persuasion may say "I can't wait to start going"

How can you be impatient to start not doing something when you have already stopped? Unless you are presently being held against your will within the confines of Villa Park, you would have in effect started not going  from sometime shortly after the final whistle of the Liverpool game. Or at least from the moment you reached your decison to stop going. Your action to embark on an inaction has already commenced, therefore you cannot by definition look forward to it.  ;)

Nutters because they don't now want renew ?

No no no Lee, you get me wrong. Anyone who is sufficiently pissed off with this appointment or the board or just football in general is perfectly entitled to make that decision, I have no problem whatsoever with that.
.

No probs Dave. I get where your coming from

You don't get why people are not renewing and that's fair enough, and Villa will chuck out some spin out about sales figures, but they haven't had their finger on the so far so I don't expect them to do now

I don't think they will need to spin too much, I fully expect ST sales to be roughly where they were last season.
We live in a bubble of righteous indignation here on t'internet at times.

They will only be forthcoming with the figures if they increase. If it goes the other way, then they may not. The General has been asked a few times for the "return" factor and he has not answered the question. Perhaps I should ask Nicky

But if you go to away games, you are supporting the team rather than the club.  We only get financial benefit from away cup games.

Just as I thought my mind was made up..... along comes the possibility of losing another of our better players.
The Ginger one`s comments and vibes coming out from the club seem to indicate that next season the squad will consist of youth and experience. Nowt wrong with that but it`s the type of experience that worries me - players from struggling clubs or Championship ?
I understand the guys who renew whatever "`cos it`s the Villa and we support the club rather than the Owner/Manager/Player etc" but there`s more to it for me and others - i.e the expense (travelling 200 miles round trip). Last year was poor and I can count on one hand the matches I went to where me and VCTM jnr came away saying "that was good".

The dreams and aspirations that were sold to us by Lerner have faded somewhat and whilst I love my club as much as ever (started going down circa 1961) we appear to be consolidating our perception of being  a "mid table club" with survival being paramount.

I have been through far worse times supporting and following the Villa however this pre season is currently very disappointing - quality players leaving, late launch of kit, underwhelming kit sponsor, unpopular managerial appointment and no sign of "mouth watering" signings. We havn`t even got a first choice keeper. Hopefully players will arrive before August but the comments from McLeish seem to indicate he will be assessing the squad later rather than sooner?

Nothing has happened in the last 6 months to make me want to part with my hard earned cash for those two season tickets .

Players  reported wages doesn`t help either - Ashley Young earning as much in a day than I earn in a year !!! It`s the economics of the mad house.

Will I renew? It`s up to you Mr Lerner and Mr McLeish ...... persuade me.

And for all those who accuse me of not being a real fan ..... I have followed this club through the turmoil of the late 1960`s and 1970`s and the mediocrity of late 1980`s/ 1990`s.

I grew up being told by my late grand father and late father that Villa was a great club - it still is in my eyes, however when we appear to be striving for maintaining that mediocrity rather than competing for titles or Cups it all seems a bit pointless.

It's funny you mention that if we are now facing up to midtable/survival. I do wonder what vision was sold to Bent when he came and whether that has changed.

Stating the obvious - not every team is going to be able to gain access to the Champions League. Man City have joined the other clubs with greater resources than our owner - Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool (?) - so achieving a Europa League place wont be a "given" either. On the other hand, I believe that the doom mongers in the media talking of another relegation battle are letting the anoyance with the club not doing their business via the media taint their views - plus a lot are MON lovers who haven't forgiven RL for letting Greard have the money for Bent.

I have renewed - did so before GH left - and don't feel that I'm accepting mediocrity. However a dose of realism is probably required for some regarding what can be achieved these days. We are never going to be able to compete on salaries with Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea (at least not until the arabs and Abramovic get bored and sod off); probably not with Tottenham and Arsenal and possibly Liverpool. Until FIFA/UEFA man up and fully impliment their Financial Fair Play scheme, the way forward is probably through the development of younger players - home grown or bought - with the occasional "named" signing for strategic positions and decent runs in the cup competitions.

However, I still feel that, as long as we can repair the defence, we can compete for 5th or 6th - I am yet to be convinced that "King Kenny" and the Liverpool revival are the real deal and Tottenham's defence inspires as little confidence as ours. To get any higher will rely on 2 of the other 4 teams having a bad season.

Although, like most of us, I still hope/wish for better, accepting this as reality for the immediate future I will be satisfied as long as we play football that is good to watch and stay clear of the lower half of the table.

That argument is getting a bit tired now, though.

It's not just doom mongers in the media, it is also lots of our supporters who can see lean times ahead. Worrying, it is starting to look like the media were right all along.

If Downing leaves as rumoured, in the space of two weeks we'll have appointed a manager who specialises in relegation, been turned down by Wigan's manager, and sold our two best players within weeks of the end of the season, having sold our best player in each of the two previous summers.

You don't really need to have an agenda of some sort to see the above as the actions of a club going nowhere.
