I reckon AM will be announced tomorrow while we're all getting excited about the fixtures and then before you know it we'll all be like " he's alright, lets get on with it" and then notice we Have Man U away first game of the season.

wAS IT 5-0 Blues got spanked there last season ?

Go on then, show me what there is to be positive about hiring a Manager with 3 relegations and a history of shit, sterile football.

I'm all ears.

What a sorry sorry mess. Our board have fucked this up good and proper. No more credit ffrom me. They will now be judged on performance and success on the pitch and not all the fluffy off the field stuff. As a Villa fan, I feel badly let down by Lerner, PF and the General.

I don't want McCleish, I'll support the team, however the love affair with our 'new' owners is over. Thet now have a LOT to prove. Actions speak louder than words, time to step up, or sell up.

Here's my 'reading between the lines' idea of what happened:-

When Houllier left we wanted Moyes and to also had a chat to Ancelotti, but got knocked back on both counts.

So we started looking around, which lead to the Rafa interview, approach for Martinez and McLaren.

Something happened that made us think Moyes might be back on.  This lead the Mysteryman's 'meltdown' comment and those rumours he had resigned from Everton.  I'm guessing this was a strong belief we were getting him, so told Shteve not to bother.

When this then did not happen, we were left up shit creek with the paddle stuck up our collective arses, so jumped at the idea of McLeish as the timing was right and he was seen as Moyes-lite.
Probably right John, but to aim for Ancelotti and end up with McLeish is a comedown of fucking gigantic proportions.

Well it’s a done deal by all accounts.  AM to be Villa manager.  What now?  I don’t like it as many others don’t.  However I think its time to put the poison chalice away so to speak.  If you don’t want to renew ST fine, or refrain from purchasing merchandise etc, these are all personal choices. So to answer the ‘what now’ question, I believe accept the decision and get on with supporting the team and if that means giving AM a chance then do so.  Expect I’m going to get slaughtered now.

It's a bit like chatting Megan Fox up at 8pm in a pub, then at 2.30am outside a nightclub, you're on your way home with Olive from On the buses.

I think you miay be correct. Although it is possible the McClaren interview was cancelled partly due to the backlash, and when Villa thought there were still other better options in the pipeline. But when they dried up it was too late to then interview him, and they went down the AM route.

if true why would they cancel interest in mclaren but not martinez?
