.  If it's the likes of say Rijkaard then why would someone so further up the managerial tree than RM say yes when he said no?
Because by that time the club got desperate perhaps and changed tack in what they were offering?

Embarrassing that we moved for him in the first place
Embarrassing that he has turned us down
Embarrassing now that anyone after this will be second choice to Roberto Martinez.

Dear oh dear Randy what are you playing at as for the life of me I cannot see it.

Who says Martinez was first choice?

didn't dave whelan say it ?

Since when has Dave Whelan been an official spokesman for Aston Villa?

If RM turns us down then this PR Disaster continues

How is a PR disaster?  We've kept a dignified silence and gone about our busiess quietly.  What are we supposed to do, comment on every name speculated on to appease the fans?  You (and I) may not agree with who the club is going after (the only name officially leaked and not by us), but that is not a PR disaster.  What else could the club do to avoid this 'disaster' other than appoint a manager of your choosing, instantly, whether he wants to join us or not.

Stop talking melodramatic bollocks.

It's a PR disaster precisely because we've kept a dignified silence.

This leaves the media with no choice but to make stuff up and, in the case of Aston Villa, this will almost always be the most derogatory stuff imaginable.

So they gleefully portray a situation where we offer the job to a string of decreasingly capable canidates, who all knock us back, before staggering blindly onto the next one down the list.

It's all bollocks of course, but it's bollocks that portrays us in the worst possible light. Surely we need to employ a media expert who can manage them and give them soundbites without compromising what we are doing behind the scenes?

My bruv always says 'fuck the media' but if you view Aston Villa as a business, which on one level it is, what company in any business can afford to ignore bad press in the media?

No company, because it damages their image and hampers their efforts to attract sponsorship, investment and top employees.

Whelan doesn't sit on the Villa board so how would he know?
Just because RM was the first to be officially linked with the job doesn't mean he was first choice.

Tom Ross reporting VILLA statement saying Martinez staying. A bit odd if it's villa reporting it. Search goes on. I'm now firmly in the cock up rather than conspiracy camp

Very interesting phraseology in the official statement - "we have not had the opportunity to discuss the vacant managerial role with him."

I'll take the childish mockery of having been turned down by Martinez if we get the right outcome in the end.
I just think that the club are surely too smart to take such a risk as Martinez represents, RL is not an idiot, he will not want to put his investment at risk, especially following the difficulties of last year and yet I am crapping myself that everytime the SSN idiot appears on screen he is going to say it's a done deal and he's on his way. Nervous - very nervous!

MM , having Dave Whelan and Ian Taylor come out and say RM is our prime target, surely this isnt the name you thought was at the top of the list a week ago,,, is it ???

No it isn't I think there is another twist in store but who knows cos I certainly have nothing concrete to go on . It's now down to scraps probaly no more in the know than anybody else if truth be known now .

I questioned everyone getting excited on here by MM's post regarding a "meltdown" but was told he has a track record of being correct.
Meltdown has become "nothing concrete" and "scraps". Is this what's called backtracking?

You could get a job on Sky or Talkshite with reasoning like that!

So they've admitted he was very high on their shortlist.

Good grief.
