The thing is Maz you don't need anything because you won't be making the appointment.

I'm a fan of this club, so I'm afraid I do need something.

Not in terms of why he should be appointed, unless the board have invited you in to the interview?

Are you saying I shouldn't have an opinion on who should be the next manager of this club I've supported for over 30 years?

No Maz, have an opinion that's fine just stop asking for reasons why he should get the job. The board think he is worthy of looking at. He's got an interview if he flunks it then we move on, if he aces it we have a new Villa man. Things that people are saying on the web won't get him/lose him the job. He is untried at this level but then so would Ancellotti have been.

Just seem Pat Murphy's latest summing up on BBC. He really has got a hard on for us.

well ignoring the McClaren rant he's right about Martinez. You don't employ a guy with his CV if you're planning to challenge for the top4. we know it, Murphy knows it and our better players know it.

Pat Murphy seems to forget that while FC Twente was a good run for McClaren, he blew it at Wolfsburg, kept his job at Boro more thanks to the former "Best owner in the league" rather than his skill, even Boro fans were amazed when he became England manager.  And dont start us on about that Pat, he had the supposedly "Golden generation" and couldnt qualify out of a medium at best group.

This.

Dont ask why he should get the job?
Firstly, its my right to ask why a potential manager of the club I support should get the job and secondly I think its the most important question.
Also, dont tell me what I should and shouldn't be asking.

I agree with this.  Martinez might be ok but it is a major gamble and one I wouldn't have thought we can afford to make.

And while at Boro after a 4-0 home defeat, fans threw their season tickets on the pitch and one threw it at him.  Now who was that against I wonder ?

Just seem Pat Murphy's latest summing up on BBC. He really has got a hard on for us.

Disgusting isn't it. Three-quarters of his piece is taken up with how disgusting he thinks it is that none of us think McClaren is the right choice. He gets more and more like Alan Green every time I hear him

Is his problem more directed at Lerner rather than the club as a whole?

I have just read his quotes on the BBC website, obviously I have not heard his tone etc but I understand where he is coming from.

He rates McClaren (most of us don't) so he is pointing out that we don't want an experienced (Mclown) and because of our (fans) out pouring of displeasure we may well end up with an inexperienced manager in Martinez.

So be it, he has his opinion we have ours.

I really hope the Randy and Co pull a rabbit out of the hat but if it's Martinez then it's our "bed" and we will lie in it!

Greg, I don't normally agree with you, but you are spot on.
Anyway, it will be another name by tomorrow.......I hope.

some of these so called far better managers did what in there last positions ?

Ancelloti  - sacked
Rafa Benete  - sacked
McClaren - sacked
Hughes - walked out
Ridjkaard - sacked

At a rough guess, that list of managers has yielded: -

3 x Champions League
1 x UEFA Cup
2 x FA Cup
1 x League Cup

I'm sure there are other honours I'm unaware of in Italy / Holland etc.

yeah, i know its pretty impressive,
but they still all failed to deliver last time out

Ancelotti failed to deliver? He finished second in the league this season and won it the year previously.

You wouldn't want him as Villa manager?

I think we would all love Ancelloti maz.  Trying to see positives but struggling with it. Rafa still looks the best fit to me.

Got to say I have a lot of time for Martinez looks a decent bloke knows English football well Looks like he has an eye for a decent player and has turned a very poor non footballing side and got them playing good football while keeping them up.
To be honest if we couldn't have one of the big names 3 or 4 names which it doesnt look like we can Id go for him or Coyle as being better than the other names like Hughes or Mcclaren.

Still its a massive risk and the way things have ben going lately not sure if its the best move stability wise

well yes he failed to deliver at Chelsea, thats why he got the sack,

but yes obviously i would like to see him at Villa, but he's the only one on that list that i would take above Martines,

After a night of reflection I think it might not be over yet - if we're approaching a manager from a Club, we'll do it the right way. It may look to the chairman of their club we want him, but it might not be the case and Martinez is just one of many (employed and unemployed) who are being lined up for it.

Maybe we'll go back to Rafa after a few more interviews?
